The company has managed to stick to the schedule so far and has released EMUI 11 stable updates for the Huawei P40, P40 Pro, and P40 Pro+. Since all of its latest flagships have already been updated to the new software release, Huawei has now started rolling out EMUI 11 for a couple of older flagships, including the Huawei P30, P30 Pro, Mate 20, Mate 20 X, and Mate 20 Pro.

Now the company has announced the rollout schedule of EMUI 10.1 beta for existing Huawei and Honor branded devices.

This new OS will be used if and only if using Android on Huawei and Honor devices becomes impossible. Huawei is still committed to Android, and the next EMUI 10 update will also be based on Android Q, the next version of Google's operating system. At the Huawei Developer Conference, Huawei confirmed that EMUI 10 beta will be coming to the Huawei P30 and the Huawei P30 Pro on September 8, 2019. [Update 3: UK Launch] The Huawei Mate 20 X 5G has a smaller 4200mAh battery but faster 40W charging
Huawei is preparing a special 5G version of their Huawei Mate 20 X, which they're dubbing the Huawei Mate 20 X 5G. Here are its specifications.
The race for 5G is on. As 5G connectivity is slowly becoming available for consumers, several OEMs are also launching their own 5G-compatible devices. Samsung, for example, is ready to launch their Samsung Galaxy S10 5G, a special variant of their Galaxy S10 smartphone which includes better cameras, a bigger display, and, of course, 5G support. Meanwhile, LG has also announced the LG V50 ThinQ with support for 5G connectivity. OnePlus, OPPO, Lenovo, and ZTE are also preparing 5G devices. Of course, Chinese giant Huawei is also joining this bandwagon, but with two new devices to their name.
The Huawei P30 series and 14 other Huawei devices will get Android Q
Huawei is promising an EMUI 10 based on Android Q update for the Huawei P30, Huawei Mate 20, and a bunch of other devices.
These are complicated times for Huawei and Huawei fans. The US trade ban has put the company's future in limbo and consumers rightfully have a lot of questions. To combat some of the rumors and speculation, Huawei has published a "Huawei Answers" page to formally respond to some of the concerns. There's good news in these responses for Huawei fans who want EMUI 10 and Android Q.
The Huawei P30, Huawei Mate 20, Honor View 20, and Honor Magic 2 will be the first from Huawei and Honor to get Android Q
The Huawei P30, Huawei Mate 20, Honor View 20, and Honor Magic 2 will be among the initial devices to get EMUI based on Android Q.
Huawei's custom Android interface, called EMUI, has an impressively long list of features that get mistaken for gimmicks. The experience can sometimes be overwhelming because of the sheer number of features like Torch or Mirror that are present as individual apps. But with its increasing popularity in markets outside of Asia – especially Europe, the OEM has been working to refine the software experience. EMUI 9.1, first announced with Huawei P30 Pro, brought a refined interface including flatter icons, GPU Turbo 3.0, and useful AR features. Now, with the launch of the first Android Q beta for non-Pixel smartphones, the company is already announcing its plans about the rollout of the next version of EMUI.
EMUI 9 Review [Part 2]: Huawei/Honor's Android Pie Software Packs a Ton of Useful Features Mistaken for Gimmicks
EMUI 9, also known as Magic UI 2 on Honor devices, is Huawei's take on Android Pie. Here's part 2 of our review focusing on its features and apps.
Among the various Android forks, Huawei's EMUI is second only to Samsung's One UI in terms of customization. There's a staggering amount of features and pre-installed apps to meet your needs. In part 2 of my EMUI 9 review, I'll go over all the features and apps that Huawei and Honor offer on their latest smartphones. If you haven't already checked out part 1 of the review which covers EMUI 9's Design and Behavioral changes over stock Android 9 Pie, then I recommend you click the link below to read that part.
EMUI 9 Review [Part 1]: Android Pie on Huawei/Honor Smartphones is a Radical Departure from Stock Android
EMUI 9, also known as Magic UI 2 on Honor devices, is Huawei's take on Android Pie. Here's part 1 of our review focusing on its design and behavior.
Android is the operating system of over 2 billion smartphones around in the world. A good chunk of the Android smartphones sold worldwide come from Chinese technology giant Huawei and its sub-brand Honor. Like its many rival Chinese brands, Huawei ships a heavily customized build of Android on all its smartphones. The software is called "EMUI," or Emotion UI as it was once known. Huawei's sub-brand Honor also ships EMUI on its smartphones, although under a different name called "Magic UI."
How to add call recording support to the EMUI 9 dialer on the Huawei Mate 20, Huawei P30, and other devices
Install this APK to get Huawei P30 Pro's call recording feature on any Huawei or Honor smartphone running EMUI 9 without root.
Call recording is often associated with risky business but it can also be very useful, so much so that Google might be adding it the future versions of Android. It comes in handy when you wish to ensure that you don't miss vital details during an interview or a business call without having to jot down tiniest of the details manually. Of course, it can also become essential when you have to deal with an uncooperative customer support staff or someone threatening you. While there are plenty of call recording apps for Android devices, many smartphone manufacturers are increasingly adding a native feature to help users record call easily. The feature comes pre-installed on the Huawei P30 Pro which runs on EMUI 9.1, depending on your region.

The update was deemed stable enough for average users, as Huawei has now begun rolling out the EMUI 9.1 update for the Mate 20 Pro and the Mate 20 X (AL00).
Dual-Frequency GNSS - An important location feature your phone is probably missing
Accurate location isn't guaranteed on most Android phone because they lack dual-frequency GNSS. Here's what that means and if your device has it.
It's not something you often think about, but location services are probably one of the most-used features on your smartphone. A multitude of apps—from Pokémon GO to Snapchat—rely on your location to personalize your experience and provide you with more features. Of course, this goes beyond just casual app usage. Accurate location is everything when you're driving around a big city looking for a parking space. Unfortunately, when it comes to the vast majority of modern devices, accurate location is not something you can be 100% sure of.
The Huawei Mate X may be joined by the Huawei Mate 20 X in Huawei's 5G lineup
At MWC, Huawei announced their foldable Huawei Mate X with 5G connectivity, but they also quietly announced the Huawei Mate 20 X will be upgraded with 5G.
The 2019 Mobile World Congress just wrapped up, and it's fair to say that the event was the most packed in years. Before the event even started, we were met by OPPO's announcement of 10X zoom technology followed by Xiaomi's unveiling of the 5G Mi Mix 3 and European Mi 9 a few hours later. That same day, Huawei, HMD Global, and LG announced their newest flagship phones—the foldable 5G Huawei Mate X, the penta-camera Nokia 9, and the hand-scanning LG G8 ThinQ. The first actual day of MWC brought us the Sony Xperia 1 and the ZTE Axon 10 Pro. I haven't even mentioned any of the mid-range smartphones that were announced, the two smartphones with full QWERTY keyboards, Nubia's smartphone/smartwatch hybrid, the upcoming LG V50 ThinQ, or any of Google's or Qualcomm's announcements. Amidst these new product announcements, there was one that caught me off guard. Huawei actually announced they're making a second 5G smartphone: an upgraded Huawei Mate 20 X with 5G connectivity.
Chrome OS Instant Tethering now supports 15 more Chromebooks and 30 more Android smartphones
Chrome OS has a feature called Instant Tethering, but it has been limited to Google's own Chromebooks and phones. Now Google is bringing it to more devices.
Chromebooks are known for being lightweight and easy to use. This makes Chrome OS devices perfect for on-the-go computing. While we already carry smartphones that can connect to the internet at all times, most people don't want a separate data plan for their laptop. Chrome OS has made this easy with a feature called Instant Tethering, but it has been limited to Google's own Chromebooks and phones. Now, Google is bringing the feature to more devices.

Huawei releases kernel source code for Kirin 980 and Kirin 970 devices on Android Pie
The kernel source code for all Kirin 980 and Kirin 970 smartphones running Android Pie has been released by Huawei. You can download it here!
Android smartphones all run on top of the Linux kernel, and OEMs are required to distribute the source code of all Linux kernel binaries that they ship on their devices. While most companies do release kernel sources in a (somewhat) timely manner, there are some companies that take their sweet, sweet time in doing so. One such example is Xiaomi, which to their credit has recently upped their game by releasing the kernel source code in the timeframe they agreed on. Having access to the kernel source code can be a huge boon for developers seeking to create custom AOSP-based ROMs and custom kernels for a smartphone. Although the company recently closed down official bootloader unlocking tools, Huawei has still released the kernel source code for all Kirin 980 and Kirin 970 smartphones running Android Pie (as they are still required to do so).
