In the world of tablets, there aren't a whole lot of options. You'll pretty much only ever stray towards Samsung in the realm of Android or, more likely, an iPad. A lot of Android users will be swayed by the allure of an iPad, as Apple just simply does tablets better. However, the Honor Pad 8 is an interesting tablet that does it just a little bit differently. It's geared a whole lot more towards media consumption but has a price tag to match, too.

When Huawei sold off its sub-brand Honor in late 2020 to a consortium of buyers, it was welcome news to many phone fans. Not only did it mean that we get a new independent player in the smartphone scene, but there were hopes that Honor devices would regain access to Google Mobile Services, which had been stripped from all devices under the Huawei umbrella since mid-2019. And that was exactly what happened: Honor re-made its global debut in the summer of 2021 with the Magic 3 series, with a big marketing push about being an independent brand and having full Google support to boot.

Asus Zenbook 17 Fold OLED

If you've ever heard the term "foldable laptop", your instinctual reaction was probably to ask what laptops aren't foldable. At least, that's what mine was. However, in recent times we've seen the advent of foldable smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, and that same foldable display technology trickling into other mediums too, most notably laptops. A foldable laptop is one where the display folds, and there's typically an external keyboard, too. We had some time to play with the Asus Zenbook 17 Fold OLED at this year's IFA, and it's a pretty cool device.

Huawei launched a series of flashy products at the IFA trade show in Berlin over the weekend, including a new upper mid-range phone with a whopping 60MP selfie camera, a new flagship laptop running Intel's 12th generation Intel processor, and the Huawei Watch Fit D that can measure blood pressure via a miniature pump inside the band. However, one product that didn't get any stage or show booth time was the Huawei Eyewear. These are a pair of "smart glasses" with an open acoustic system and microphone built into the arms so the wearer can listen to audio or take phone calls while wearing the glasses, without needing to access their smartphone.

Angled view of foldable laptop showing XDA

Lenovo has announced its second-generation ThinkPad X1 Fold, and ahead of the announcement, I actually got to play around with one. There are tons of changes this time around, but the biggest one is that it actually seems to be pretty good. Having a laptop with a foldable display seems to be less of a novelty and more like something that's actually viable. I like it a lot.
