In a bid to ensure that the Chrome Web Store doesn't host any malicious Chrome extensions, Google routinely updates the platform's privacy policies. Back in October 2018, the company announced one such update which was aimed at making extensions more secure. As part of the update, Google introduced new user controls for host permissions, made changes to the extensions review process, added new code readability requirements, and made 2-Step Verification necessary for Chrome Web Store developer accounts. While such changes are great for keeping malicious extensions off the platform, they now seem to be affecting legit Chrome extensions like Pushbullet and Join.

When it comes to transferring files between devices, there are a number of different apps on the Google Play Store that you can use. Among these is Join, a feature-rich app from the developers of the popular automation app Tasker, that allows you to easily connect two devices and share things like notifications, messages, clipboard data, location, files, and much more. While the Join app already lets you share files between devices, it currently relies on Google Drive for the purpose. In order to simplify the process and make file transfers on local networks faster, the latest beta release of Join brings support for local network file transfer.

Back in January this year, we learned that Android 10/Q might be considering blocking clipboard access to apps running in the background. When we first got our hands on the Android 10 beta in March, the same was confirmed to be true. This spelled the end for clipboard managers which require access to clipboard data to function normally. While this change was certainly a big win for security, it hurt many third-party developers. Now, it seems like the developer behind Tasker and Join has managed to find a workaround to bring back clipboard monitoring on Android 10.

An important part of life in a digital world is integration between devices. When smartphones first arrived, there were tons of apps that made it possible to sync and share between devices. If you're a long-time Android user you may remember an app called "Chrome to Phone" that allowed you to push things from your desktop browser to your phone. Features like this are fairly common now and Google is working on a new one.

Transferring pieces of content from a computer over to your Android device used to be quite the hassle. Most stuck with just sending an email to themselves, but there are some who came up with creative solutions to the problem. We saw the introduction of the Pushbullet application which soared in popularity before the developers introduced a paid tier and roped off a number of core features that so many people had grown to love. After some time we saw another developer join the fray with the application called Join, and it's grown to include a lot of unique features. Now there is yet another contender with a new alternative called EasyJoin.

"Join" by João Dias has just received a big update to version 2.0 that adds support for IFTTT, predefined remote actions, and much more.

Join started as an application from João Dias that made it much easier to sync and share content between devices. At the time, the main player in the game was an application called Pushbullet, but even it received some negative backlash from the community when some of its features were gated off behind a subscription service. Since then Join has stepped up as a viable alternative, but lately, the application has received updates that put it far and beyond what the original application did. It has just received a big update to version 2.0 that adds support for IFTTT, predefined remote actions, and much more.

Fingerprint readers are fairly limited in their default state. Besides the obvious ability to unlock the phone or authorize some payments, there isn't much else you can do with the fingerprint reader on most Android phones. The feature always felt like a missed opportunity - until now!
