Plasma is its open source operating system, and it has already been introduced and adopted on mobile by many. Now, KDE is back with a new Linux-based laptop that could give Microsoft a run for its money.

In concept, KDE Connect is very similar to Microsoft’s Your Phone app and Pushbullet. You can share files between your phone and PC, receive notifications, check your phone’s battery level, share clipboard contents, and so on. However, what makes it really stand out from Microsoft Your Phone and other similar services is its advanced features. For example, you can use your phone’s screen as a touchpad for your PC. It even lets you execute custom commands from your phone to control various computer states (reboot, hibernate, shutdown, etc.).

Pine64, makers of PinePhone, the Linux powered, completely open mobile device, has joined forces with software community KDE for a special edition. The PinePhone KDE Community Edition will run Plasma Mobile, the mobile version of KDE’s Plasma graphical workspace environment. KDE says that Plasma Mobile “includes most of the essential features a smartphone user would expect and its functionalities increase day by day.”

The team behind this organization has just announced a new, open source smartphone OS called Plasma Mobile.
