Here's when LG plans to update its phones in India
LG has mapped out their timeline on when Android 10 will be rolling out to some of their flagship phones in India. Check it out!
LG has been putting out some amazing smartphones lately. The LG Velvet represented a change in direction from their usual release plans, as the Velvet is essentially a mid-range phone at a comparatively cheaper price. The LG Wing, on the other hand, packs a lot of weirdness (in a good way) for a phone that stands out from the pack notably, for a change. But one aspect where the company has not stood out as much is in software. In fact, historically, they've been bad when it comes to maintaining and rolling out frequent updates to their phones. If you're in India and you're still awaiting an update to Android 10, then good news: LG actually has a page with dates on when updates are rolling out to certain devices.
The LG Velvet's new UI is coming to 6 other LG smartphones
LG has now announced that 6 older phones will be getting the updated UI that comes on the LG Velvet. The devices will get it in Korea first.
The LG Velvet is one of the company's most exciting devices in a while, and that largely revolves around the brand new design. While the hardware shows the most drastic change, LG has also refreshed its software for the Velvet. The company has now announced that 6 older smartphones will be getting the updated UI as well.

The original LG G8 ThinQ received its Android 10 update back in December 2019 while the "Dual Screen" compatible LG G8X ThinQ is scheduled to get its Android 10 update in Q2 2020. Now, owners of the Sprint LG G8X ThinQ will be glad to know that the device is receiving its dose of Android 10 through an OTA update.
LG G7 ThinQ Android 10 kernel source code is now available
LG has posted Android 10 kernel sources for the T-Mobile and Verizon variants of the LG G7 ThinQ ahead of the upcoming update. Read on to know more!
LG's G series is expected to be retired soon in favor of the upcoming 'Velvet' lineup, but the company has no plan to abandon the legacy models in terms of software support. 2018's LG G7 ThinQ, for example, is scheduled to receive the Android 10 update in Q3 2020. While we don't know the exact date of the OTA rollout, LG has now shared Android 10 kernel sources for a couple of carrier-branded variants of the LG G7.
[Update: Canada too] The LG G7 is finally getting Android Pie in the US & Europe
Two weeks after the LG V40 got it, we are finally starting to see LG G7 customers receiving their Android Pie update in the United States and across Europe.
Unless things take a turn for the better, slow updates from LG should be expected from here on out. We recently reported on the Android Pie update that finally hit the U.S. market for LG V40 users. Most OEMs go with the strategy of updating their newest smartphones first so that update gave people hope for the LG G7 ThinQ. It's been less than two weeks and we are just now starting to see LG G7 customers receiving their Android 9 update in the United States and across Europe.
Chrome OS Instant Tethering now supports 15 more Chromebooks and 30 more Android smartphones
Chrome OS has a feature called Instant Tethering, but it has been limited to Google's own Chromebooks and phones. Now Google is bringing it to more devices.
Chromebooks are known for being lightweight and easy to use. This makes Chrome OS devices perfect for on-the-go computing. While we already carry smartphones that can connect to the internet at all times, most people don't want a separate data plan for their laptop. Chrome OS has made this easy with a feature called Instant Tethering, but it has been limited to Google's own Chromebooks and phones. Now, Google is bringing the feature to more devices.

Kernel source for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro, Nokia 6.1 Plus/5.1 Plus/7.1, and LG G7's Android Pie release are live
Kernel Sources for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro, the Nokia 6.1 Plus, Nokia 5.1 Plus, Nokia 7.1 as well as LG G7's Android Pie release are now live! Read on.
Kernels are developed under the General Public License (GPL), which essentially states that the development, changes and modifications are to be shared back with the community for the continuous advancement of the open source community. Thus, if you make changes to the Linux kernel and release it, you are bound to release the code for these changes back to the community. Android OEMs necessarily need to make changes to the kernel in the course of developing software for their devices, so they become obliged to release the code for these changes in a timely manner.
Enable all lockscreen weather effects on the LG G7 and LG V30 [Root]
XDA Senior Member pittvandewitt found a different way to enable all the lockscreen weather effects on the LG G7 and LG V30.
LG phones have a unique feature that displays weather effects on the lock screen of their smartphone. Most OEMs will just use a small icon next to the time or date, but LG takes things a step further and actually adds full visual effects to whatever lock screen image you have chosen. Over the years there have been mods that let you add more weather effects to their device (by modding their LGKeyguardEffect.apk), but XDA Senior Member pittvandewitt found a different way of doing things on the LG G7 ThinQ and LG V30.

With respect to the Indian smartphone market, LG has always found it tough to compete with Samsung at the high-end price segment and with Chinese smartphone vendors at the budget and mid-range segments. In December, the company launched the LG V30 in India, three months after its US launch. The LG G7 ThinQ was made official back in May, and it went on sale in select markets starting June. How A/B Partitions and Seamless Updates Affect Custom Development on XDA
You may have heard of Seamless Updates before. It involves something called "A/B partitions." What is it and how does it affect custom development on XDA?
When Android Nougat released, it had us talking about all kinds of new features. We got a newly updated user interface for starters along with long-awaited multiwindow capabilities and Vulkan Graphics API support. But one under-the-hood addition flew over the heads of most users. Android Nougat introduced "Seamless Updates" on devices that support A/B partitions. The vast majority of existing Android devices (excluding the new Google Pixel and Google Pixel XL) did not have A/B partitions at the time and thus couldn't take advantage of seamless updates. The basic premise of this feature is that the device has a second set of the system, boot, vendor, and other important partitions, and when you get an OTA update the update happens in the background while the second set of partitions are patched which lets you reboot into an updated software build seamlessly. If an update fails, you'll be kicked back to a working build, meaning companies will have fewer headaches to deal with and consumers are better protected.

Recording 4K video at 60fps has become a highly requested feature and the LG G7 ThinQ just received this feature with its latest OTA update.
When you buy a high-end flagship smartphone these days you kind of expect it to have all the top of the line features that are available from its competition. That is the case with the newly announced LG G7 ThinQ and its 4K video recording capabilities. Recording 4K video at 60fps has become a highly requested feature and the South Korean LG G7 ThinQ just received this feature with its latest OTA update.

Finally! Now you can unlock bootloader officially on the LG G7! Just head to the official LG Developers site and follow instructions
Unlocking a bootloader, rooting a device, and flashing custom ROMs are popular hobbies here on XDA. Unfortunately, some manufacturers don't allow those procedures for "security concerns." Traditionally, if unlocking the bootloader is allowed, you can do so on the manufacturer's website. Just now, LG's developer website got updated and added the international version of the LG G7 ThinQ. This is model number LMG710EM for the European market.

The LG G7 ThinQ is the company’s first big flagship phone for 2018. Let's take a look at the device's camera, design, and software.
The LG G7 ThinQ is the company’s first big flagship phone for 2018. In theory, the G series is supposed to compete with the Samsung Galaxy S9, but LG hasn’t had much luck in recent years. The company even talked about slowing down their phone release cycle. Despite the doom and gloom, the LG G7 ThinQ is here. The device is more of the same from LG: a solid phone that takes some chances, but ultimately will suffer the same fate as previous LG phones.
