We here at XDA-Developers have collaborated with OEMs in the past in order to kickstart development for a lot of devices. For instance, our initiative with Xiaomi for the Poco F1 has led to a thriving community that has given Poco F1 users a lot of options in terms of aftermarket ROMs, kernels and other modifications. The ASUS ZenFone 6 also witnesses an active development community thanks to previous device seeding efforts. The same story exists for the Realme X too, thanks to the developer program for the device. Now, we aim to repeat the same story with the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro, Xiaomi's latest mid-range value offering.

Xiaomi's game has seen a big, big step up in the past few years. We can't help but remember a small startup that was founded in 2010 and went around making MIUI custom ROMs for a handful of smartphones, launching its first foray into hardware all the way back in 2011 with the Xiaomi Mi 1, known back then as the "Xiaomi Phone". Nowadays, though, Xiaomi barely resembles that small startup of old as the company is embarking towards taking over the world, managing to take the steering wheel and eventually even lead innovation on its own with devices like the Mi Mix Alpha.

The Redmi Note lineup is Xiaomi's most successful product lineup with over a 100 million devices sold globally. This series has a reputation of being one of the best value-for-money purchases over the years, and it did so by redefining the expectations of consumers. Redmi Note has contributed to the declining market share of several OEMs in the Indian market over the years, and of late, it has forced the survivors to seriously up their game. While competitors always hoped that Xiaomi would slip up and make a mistake, the company has avoided overly risky maneuvers, delivering a safe and solid option in every generation. But with the new Redmi Note 8 Pro, Xiaomi has taken a bold decision to overlook the trusty safe haven of Qualcomm Snapdragon and instead place the fate of its most important device of 2019 in the hands of MediaTek. On the way, the company is also bestowing upon the device a new design, a new camera setup with a new primary sensor, and a few other notable improvements. How does the package that is the Redmi Note 8 Pro work out? Read along as we explore the Redmi Note 8 Pro in our first impressions!

Android smartphones come in a wide variety of options, but the real options when it comes to phone SoCs are fairly limited. The mobile chip market is limited to only a handful of players for the most part, namely Qualcomm, Samsung, HiSilicon and MediaTek. Qualcomm recently announced the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus — an upgraded version of their flagship SoC with an overclocked CPU and GPU to offer even better gaming performance in the flagship segment. Now, MediaTek is taking the opportunity to introduce its new Helio G-series chipsets — the new Helio G90 and Helio G90T, promising to bring improved gaming performance in the budget space; along with MediaTek HyperEngine Game Technology.
