LineageOS 19 is now available for the Moto G7 Play, Sony Xperia 1 II, Xiaomi Mi 5, and Mi 5s Plus
The LineageOS team has extended LineageOS 19 support to the Moto G7 Play, Sony Xperia 1 II, Xiaomi Mi 5, and Xiaomi Mi 5s Plus.
Earlier this month, the LineageOS team added five new devices to the LineageOS 19 build roster -- the Motorola Edge 30, Edge 20 Pro, Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro, Mi 8 Explorer Edition, and Mi Mix 2S. The team has now extended support to four more devices, including the Moto G7 Play, Sony Xperia 1 II, Xiaomi Mi 5, and Mi 5s Plus. Xiaomi has been making good progress when it comes to rolling-out MIUI Beta ROMs for its devices. The company has revealed the roll-out schedule of MIUI 10. The company's popular custom user interface comes in two variants: MIUI 10 China and MIUI 10 Global. The China ROM is intended for Chinese users, whereas the Global Beta ROM is intended for a global audience and comes with Google Play services integration. Xiaomi phones that are sold internationally ship with MIUI Global Stable ROM.

An important thing to note, however, is that a MIUI 10 update is separate from an Android Oreo update, as MIUI 10 ROMs can be based on older versions of Android.

If you've only heard of Project Treble in passing but haven't looked into it all that much, then you may have heard that it's supposed to help major Android updates roll out more quickly. At XDA, there's another benefit that we've spoken about at length: the ability to boot an AOSP Generic System Image (GSI) on any supported device. This means that devices that were once running heavily customized Android versions like Samsung Experience on the Samsung Galaxy S9 or EMUI 8 on the Huawei Mate 10 Pro can alternatively run software closer to that of the Google Pixel 2.

Whereas Apple is able to keep most of their devices, even many older ones, up to date with the latest software (which sometimes involve rather controversial features), Android device makers have varying degrees of success keeping their devices up to date. Some device makers like Essential and Google are pretty good at providing security patches, while others can delay updates by months at a time. That's without considering major software updates such as from Android Nougat to Android Oreo, a software release which is installed on only slightly more than 1% of all Android devices. To combat slow Android updates, Google introduced Project Treble.
Xiaomi Mi 5 receives Project Treble compatibility unofficially
The Xiaomi Mi 5 (gemini) has received an unofficial alpha port of Project Treble. The port allows Mi 5 users to flash a Generic System Image (GSI) of AOSP Android Oreo.
Project Treble is required to be supported on any phone launching with Android 8.0 Oreo and above. However, devices that shipped with older versions of Android are not required to be updated with Project Treble support. This means that older devices that are not updated with Project Treble support cannot make any use of the benefits that Project Treble provides, such as being able to flash a Generic System Image (GSI) of AOSP Android Oreo without any kernel modifications.
MIUI 9 Global Now Available for Xiaomi Mi Max 2, Mi 6, Mi Mix and More
MIUI 9 Global is now available for the Xiaomi Mi Max 2, Mi 6, Mi Mix, Mi 5, and the Mi 5s Plus. It brings split screen and other features to the devices.
Xiaomi announced the global version of MIUI 9 on November 2 at an event in New Delhi, India, alongside the Redmi Y1. (Before the announcement, some users started receiving the update on the Mi 6, the Mi Mix 2, and the Mi Max 2.) On the same day, Xiaomi launched the MIUI 9 Beta Stable update for the Redmi Note 4, and shortly after, the ROM rolled out to all users. Now, Xiaomi is upgrading a few of the other flagships in its sprawling portfolio.
