OnePlus 6 running LineageOS 19

LineageOS 20 has been with us for some time now. The popular custom ROM not only helps legacy and lower-end phones get a taste of the latest Android, but it also provides even more capable devices with an alternative firmware option. The last time we covered the project, it added support for the SHIFT SHIFT6mq and a handful of phones from Xiaomi. Since then, many more devices have made their way to the official roster.

LineageOS offers an easy escape from the old and bloated firmware of your phone, allowing you to experience a lightweight, near-stock form of Android. LineageOS 18.1 is the latest version, and it's available for a wide range of smartphones and other Android-powered devices. Since its official release in March, the Android 11-based custom ROM has steadily expanded its reach to more and more Android devices. In the past couple of months, we have seen the LineageOS team adding support for dozens of popular devices, including the OnePlus 9 series, Redmi Note 10 Pro, Pixel 4 series, Walmart’s Onn and Dynalink Android TV boxes, and Asus ZenFone 8. Few more devices have now been added to the official LineageOS 18.1 build roaster.

Earlier this year in April, Motorola released Android 10 kernel sources for the Motorola One Vision and One Action. While we expected the kernel source code release to jump-start third-party development for the devices, so far, we haven't seen much progress. Even though both the devices have received official TWRP support since the kernel source code release, we haven't seen many custom ROMs on our Motorola One Vision and One Action forums. That changes today, as XDA Recognized Developer Stricted has now released an unofficial build of LineageOS 17.1 for the devices.

Last month, we saw the official TWRP builds making their way to the Samsung Galaxy M20, Asus ZenFone 5Z, Redmi 6/6A, Galaxy S4 Mini, and more. Since then, some more devices have been added to the TWRP build roaster, including the Moto One Action, Realme C2, LG V20, Lenovo Smart Tab M10, Huawei P9 Lite (hi6250), and Ergo Force F500.

From "Edgeless Displays" without physical buttons to wrap-around panels boasting a whopping 180.6% screen-to-body ratio, smartphone manufacturers have tried to push the limits in the war on bezels. Putting aside those futuristic concept phones, notches and pop-up cameras are indeed useful to present a near bezel-less experience. The hole-punch design is another viable alternative to maximize the screen space, but the camera cutouts are not everyone’s piece of cake. Instead of hiding the punch hole(s), a handful of third-party apps can actually utilize the cutout in rather innovative ways. Energy Ring by XDA Recognized Developer jagan2, for example, can turn the area around the camera hole into a battery indicator.

Motorola One Vision/Action Android 10 kernel source code now available

Motorola has released the Android 10 kernel source codes for the Exynos 9609-powered Motorola One Vision and the Motorola One Action.

Compared to the monumental popularity of Qualcomm's Snapdragon series of SoCs, the adoption rate of Samsung-designed Exynos chipsets by third-party smartphone makers is remarkably low. Apart from the Korean OEM itself, companies like Meizu and Vivo have occasionally picked up Exynos chips. Motorola also joined this small club by incorporating the Exynos 9609 SoC in their first phone with a hole-punch display, the Motorola One Vision. The same silicon can also be found inside the Motorola One Action, which was launched a few months later. And now, Motorola has released the kernel source code corresponding to the Android 10 updates for the two phones.

Motorola starts rolling out Android 10 to the Motorola One Vision

Motorola has begun rolling out the stable Android 10 OTA to the Motorola One Vision owners in Brazil. The update also packs January 2020 security patches.

After rolling out stable Android 10 to the Motorola One Power last month, Lenovo-owned Motorola is now bringing the latest version of Android to its mid-range smartphone, the Motorola One Vision. The company has begun rolling out the stable OTA to One Vision owners in Brazil. According to the Motorola Brazil software support page, the company kicked off the staged software rollout of Android 10 on January 6, 2020, and that all One Vision units should receive the update by February 6.

Motorola Camera update brings Google's Playground AR Stickers to the Motorola One Vision, One Action, and One Zoom

An update to the Motorola Camera app in Moto devices is bringing support for AR stickers to devices like the Motorola One Action and the One Vision.

Despite Motorola's perennially erratic update support for its devices, the company does a pretty fine job at keeping its own Camera app constantly up-to-date, even if they're not really a household name like Huawei or Google when it comes to stellar camera performance. Motorola cameras can do the job and the Motorola Camera allows it to do the job well. The app recently got a slew of new features such as Google Lens integration and live filters. Now, with its latest update, the app is getting support for Google's Playground AR stickers on the latest Motorola One devices.

Google ARCore adds support for the Realme 3 Pro, Moto Z4, Motorola One Vision, and more

Google Play Services for AR, formerly known as ARCore, recently added support for the Realme 3 Pro, Moto Z4, Motorola One Vision, and more.

ARCore (now called "Google Play Services for AR") is an SDK that helps developers add augmented reality features to their Android apps. We've seen cool, albeit gimmicky features like Google's AR Stickers (now called "Playground" — Google loves renaming things) get built on top of ARCore, but we've also seen the SDK get used to build some genuinely useful features like AR navigation in Google Maps. If you've been wanting to try out the new "Live View" mode in Google Maps (or one of the useful AR shopping features in some other apps), then your device has to support ARCore. Recently, Google added support for 6 devices: the Realme 3 Pro, Motorola Moto Z4, Motorola One Vision, Infinix Mobile Note 6, Tecno Phantom 9, and the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE.

Motorola One Vision Hands-on: Promising, But Not Revolutionary

Motorola is claiming the Motorola One Vision with a unique 21:9 display and 48MP camera is a revolutionary smartphone, but we don't fully agree. Here's why

Motorola, one of the oldest names in the mobile phone business, is going all out to reshape its shrinking smartphone brand. While the smartphone company, now owned by Lenovo, accounts for only 3% of the global market share, it has not deterred from its path of trying out new things to keep users engaged. The company is trying to do something radical once again with the Motorola One Vision, a smartphone which comes with a strikingly tall 21:9 Full HD+ display packed with an under-display fingerprint scanner. With the "CinemaView" display on the smartphone, Motorola aims to woo cinema buffs and the Netflix-bingers among us. Along with the distinctive display, the smartphone also comes with a 48MP primary camera on the back and some pretty solid low-light performance claims.

Motorola is working on a new "Night Vision" camera mode for the Motorola One Vision and Moto G7 Plus

Motorola is working on a new camera mode called "Night Vision," set to debut on the Motorola One Vision but will also be available on the Moto G7 Plus.

Motorola's 2018 smartphones barely managed to stay competitive against killer mid-range offerings from Xiaomi and other Chinese brands, but the Lenovo-owned brand is looking to shake things up in 2019. The foldable Motorola Razr and a mysterious quad camera flagship are proof that Motorola is once again actually trying to compete in the premium tier, and the Motorola One Vision shows that they're stepping things up in the mid-range market as well. Given that the Motorola One Vision has already appeared on the Bluetooth certification site, the FCC, and Google's ARCore supported device list, we expect the device to launch soon. Although we already know most of its specifications, there are still software features we have yet to uncover. Today, we will share some information on the new modes in Motorola's camera app that will likely either debut with the Motorola One Vision or arrive in a future software update for the One Vision and Moto G7 Plus.

Motorola, unlike other major smartphone brands with widespread name recognition, has yet to release a new flagship smartphone in over 6 months. Even its last flagship, the Moto Z3, can hardly be considered as such. Instead, the company has focused on the mid-range segment. The Moto G7 family is their latest mid-range smartphone lineup, but for those of you who want a more stock Android-like experience you'll have to turn your attention to the Motorola One and One Power. For the past few months, I have tracked the development of a new Motorola smartphone code-named "Robusta2." According to a reliable source, this smartphone will join the Motorola One lineup as the Motorola One Vision.
