Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P reach end-of-life, may no longer get updates
The last Nexus-branded devices, the Nexus 5X and the Nexus 6P, are now receiving the November 2018 security patch, and possibly their last update ever.
The Nexus 5X and the Nexus 6P were announced way back in 2015. Both of these phones had their own series of issues, but more importantly, they marked the end of an era. The LG-built Nexus 5X and the Huawei-built Nexus 6P were the last Nexus-branded devices to ever be released to the market: they were succeeded by the original Google Pixel and Google Pixel XL, which served an entirely different market segment and targeted average consumers rather than just power users. Despite issues arising on both the 5X and the 6P, they both chugged along, receiving Android Nougat and Android Oreo officially as well as timely security updates. However, support for these phones is possibly ending now.

LG is backtracking on their bootloop lawsuit settlement
The settlement said that anyone who was affected by the bootloop issues could be entitled to a $700 rebate for a new LG device or $425, for each qualifying device. LG could be backtracking on that last part.
It's hard to bring up LG without hearing something about bootloops. To a lot of people. that's all LG is known for. Earlier this year, LG settled a class-action lawsuit related to many devices having bootloop issues. The list of affected devices included the LG V20, LG G5, LG V10, Nexus 5X, and LG G4. The settlement said that anyone who was affected by the issues could be entitled to a $700 rebate for a new LG device or $425, for each qualifying device. LG could be backtracking on that last part.
How to Fix the Lock Screen Swipe Gesture Issue on Android 8.1 Oreo
Here's how to fix the lock screen swipe gesture issue on Android 8.1 Oreo without needing root access! All you need is Substratum and a custom overlay I made.
Android 8.1, the first maintenance release of Android's long-awaited Android Oreo update, has now been released for some time, at least for Google Pixel and Nexus devices. However, some Google Pixel and Nexus owners running Android 8.1 (either the official build or a custom ROM) have noticed that swipe gestures on the lock screen, like accessing quick settings toggles, swiping to unlock, or swiping away notifications have become rather difficult at least when compared to Android 8.0. Some users report that now swipe gestures on the lock screen require nearly an entire screen-wide swipe. We've reported on this already, and it seems to affect many users running Android 8.1 software.
How to get "Turn on WiFi Automatically" for the Nexus 5X/6P on Android Oreo
With a couple of quick ADB commands, we can bring back the turn on WiFi automatically feature in Android Oreo to the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P.
Android Oreo introduces a new feature that lets you turn on WiFi automatically when you're near a "high-quality saved network," like one from work or home. This feature can be found on the official builds of Android 8.0 for the Google Pixel and Google Pixel XL, but it is not available on the Google Nexus 5X or Google Nexus 6P. However, that wasn't always the case. The two Nexus phones actually had the WiFi automatic wakeup feature when Android O Developer Preview 2 was out, but for some unknown reason Google removed this feature in the final Android 8.0 Oreo release for the Nexus 5X/6P.
Google Won't Add Support for aptX on the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P
According to a comment on the Google Issue Tracker, the Nexus 5X and the Nexus 6P will not officially support Qualcomm's aptX Bluetooth audio codec.
With Android O, Google added support for more Bluetooth audio codecs such as Sony's LDAC as well as Qualcomm's aptX and aptX HD to enable high-quality bluetooth audio streaming on supported devices.
Despite Removal, You Can Still Customize Nav Bar & Lockscreen in Android O DP3 -- Here's How
Android O Developer Preview 3 removes nav bar and lockscreen shortcut customization; here's how you can still customize them.
The Android O Developer Preview has now reached its third release, meaning the final APIs are ready and Google is readying up for an imminent and proximate release with only minor bug fixes to be expected in the remaining Developer Preview. With previous Android O previews, we saw tons of refinements to the user interface as well as some additional customization features, some of which were likely being tested and might not be available in later releases.
