Google is working on a “One-Handed Mode” for Android 12
Android 12 may introduce a one-handed mode feature, letting you use your tall phone with one hand just like Apple's Reachability for iPhones.
Over the years, smartphone makers have made taller and taller devices. While that has made media consumption more enjoyable on mobile, it has resulted in making many phones impossible to use one-handed. To compensate, several phone makers have developed software solutions to improve one-handed usability: most notably Apple with its Reachability feature. Now, Google is set to bring its own version of one-handed mode in Android 12.
OxygenOS Open Beta 8 for the OnePlus 7 series brings One-Handed Mode
OxygenOS Open Beta 8 for the OnePlus 7 series has arrived, and it brings an early version of the company's One-Handed Mode that you can try out now.
OnePlus smartphones generally have three streams of software - Closed Beta, Open Beta, and Stable. Closed Betas are available for a limited number of testers, while the Open Betas are published on OnePlus' forums for anyone to install. Both of these builds are used for testing to iron out bugs and other issues, along with introducing new features. Finally, Stable builds are a culmination of all of the features and bug fixes after the Closed and Open Betas have run their course. OnePlus is now rolling out OxygenOS Beta 8 for the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro, which features an early version of a much-anticipated One-Handed Mode. You can check out the full changelog below.
OnePlus is working on a one-handed mode for OxygenOS
In a recent AMA regarding the OnePlus 7T series, the company has revealed that it's currently working on a new one-handed mode for OxygenOS.
OnePlus' OxygenOS is undoubtedly one of the best Android skins out there. It offers a near stock Android experience, while still packing some essential features and customization options. One of the main reasons behind OxygenOS' success is the fact that OnePlus pays close attention to customer feedback and keeps modifying the OS with each successive update. For instance, at the recent OnePlus 7T Pro launch event the company unveiled an instant translation feature. The feature, which is currently in development, aims to help users communicate without any language barriers. But this isn't the only useful feature that's making its way to OxygenOS. In a recent AMA for the OnePlus 7T series, the company has revealed that it's also working on a one-handed mode.
The Sony Xperia XZ2 comes with Night Light and One-Handed Mode
The Sony Xperia XZ2's firmware includes Night Light and one-handed mode. Night Light was previously included by Sony in Xperia Compact firmware, but this is the first time it will ship in a stable firmware.
The Sony Xperia XZ2 and the Xperia XZ2 Compact were officially unveiled at Mobile World Congress 2018. The new phones represent a change from earlier Sony smartphones in key respects. Sony's Omnibalance design language was first launched in 2013, and it evolved into Loop Surface three years later. Now, it has given way to the new Ambient Flow design language. Also, the Xperia XZ2 and the Xperia XZ2 Compact are the first Sony phones to feature 18:9 displays, and they have the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 system-on-chip as well.
One Handed Mode App Updated With New Ways To Use Your Phone With One Hand!
The One Handed Mode app by XDA receives its first major update bringing new ways to use your phone with one hand and an emergency reset button.
Last week, we unveiled a project we've been quietly working on for some time: the One-Handed Mode app by XDA-Developers. It is the first and only app that emulates Reachability from iOS without needing root access, a custom ROM, or the Xposed Framework. We received a lot of feedback during our initial release, some of which were reporting bugs but many focused on adding more features.
One Handed Mode by XDA Brings Apple's Reachability Feature to Any Android Phone!
Introducing One Handed Mode, an app by XDA, which brings Apple's Reachability feature to any Android smartphone without root! Use your phone one handed!
As more and more smartphones with larger displays are released, consumers are finding it difficult to use their smartphones with one hand. While most basic actions such as taps and scrolls can be done with one hand, reaching for the top of the display to pull down the status bar or tap on an app's toolbar can prove difficult. Some smartphone manufacturers like Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi, Huawei, and LG get around this by offering a special one handed mode feature. Not every smartphone has such a feature, like the tall Google Pixel 2 XL. That's why we've been working on an app that brings this feature to any unrooted phone. Introducing One Handed Mode by XDA.
Huawei's One-Handed Mode Feature Nearly Made its Way to AOSP
Huawei attempted to add one-handed mode to AOSP, but it was never merged because of conflicts. LineageOS solved the problems to add it to the custom ROM.
There was a time when a 4.7-inch display size was thought to be too big. The original Samsung Galaxy Note was launched in 2011 and many consumers were skeptical about the usefulness of a 'gigantic' 5.3-inch device. Today, 5.5-inch displays are common even in the budget price bracket, and flagships with 5-inch displays are hard to find.
