PlayStation 4 jailbreak for firmware 9.00 released
A PlayStation 4 jailbreak for firmware 9.00 has been released, opening the door to homebrew. Read more about what that means here.
The PlayStation 4 is Sony's last-generation console, but there's still a lot of development interest. There are obviously emulators currently in the works, and consumers who wanted to use homebrew on their PlayStation 4 were able to do so -- but only on firmware 7.55. Now a new jailbreak has been released for firmware 9.00, with the latest firmware being 9.03.
Grab Borderlands 3 on PlayStation and Xbox for only $10
Borderlands 3 is now on sale for $9.99 at Best Buy. Both the PlayStation and Xbox versions are on sale, with free next-gen upgrades.
Borderlands 3 was finally released in 2019 after years of hype and anticipation, and it's definitely one of the best fast-paced shooters in recent history. Gearbox Software has been working on additional content and a new spin-off, which means the Standard Edition of Borderlands 3 (with no DLC) has continued to drop in price. Best Buy is now selling Borderlands 3 Standard Edition for just $9.99, which is $20 below the original price.
Spider-Man: Miles Morales is now just $30 on PS4 and PS5
The latest web-slinging adventure from Sony and Insomniac Games is $20 off right now, and the PS5 'Ultimiate Edition' is also on sale.
Marvel's Spider-Man by Insomniac Games is one of the best PlayStation-exclusive games, placing you in the role of Spider-Man in an open-world New York City. Insomiac Games and Sony followed it up with Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales last year, which was primarily designed for the PlayStation 5, but is also available for the older PS4. If you haven't had a chance to enjoy the latest web-slinging adventure, or you need a birthday present for someone with a PS4/5, the game has now dropped to $29.99. That's the lowest recorded price yet, at $20 below the original MSRP.
Bioshock: The Collection on PS4 is only $12 right now
Would you kindly purchase Bioshock: The Collection for the PS4? The physical version is only $11.97 right now.
The Bioshock games are still a lot of fun, even though the original entry is coming up on 15 years old. 2K Games released a remastered package of the Bioshock series for Windows, PS4, and Xbox One back in 2016 (Switch and macOS versions arrived later), and now you can get the PS4 version for just $11.97 from Amazon. That's $8 below the original price, and a killer deal for hours of fun.
Today only: Get Far Cry 5 on PS4 and Xbox One for just $10
Best Buy has the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Far Cry 5 on sale for $10. They also work on the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, respectively.
Far Cry is one of Ubisoft's most well-loved series, spanning five (soon to be six) mainline installments with open-world regions and a handful of spinoffs. The latest main entry is still Far Cry 5, and if you haven't had a chance to play it yet, Best Buy is discounting both the PS4 and Xbox One versions to $9.99. That's close to the lowest-ever Steam price of $9.
Final Fantasy VII Remake now on sale for both PS4 and PS5 (30-50% off)
Square Enix's best game from last year, Final Fantasy VII: Remake, is now on sale. Both the PS4 and PS5 versions are discounted.
Square Enix's remake of Final Fantasy VII was finally released last year, after first being announced all the way back in 2015. It ended up being one of the best games of 2020 (for anyone interested in JRPGs, at least), and the game was updated with enhanced graphics for the PS5 two months ago. Now you can get either the PS4 or PS5 versions on sale, with the PS4 game dropping to $29.99 and the PS5 port falling to $49.99.
[Update: Available for download] Sony finally makes PS4 Remote Play available for all Android devices
Sony has finally announced that the Sony PS4 Remote Play feature will be available to all Android devices in this week, ending the long Xperia-exclusivity.
Back when the Sony Xperia Z3 was launched, Sony tried to capitalize on its gaming ecosystem by gifting the device an exclusive feature: PS4 Remote Play. As the name suggests, PS4 Remote Play allows certain Sony Xperia devices to connect to a PlayStation 4 gaming console that is connected to the same network as the smartphone, and then stream console games to the smartphone. You could play with either the DualShock 4 controller connected to your smartphone, or simply use the on-screen button that comes up as an overlay. Remote Play has officially remained a Sony-smartphone exclusive (on Android) for years now, but Sony has finally realized the greater good in opening up the feature to more popular devices, as PS4 Remote Play is now available for all Android devices.
Magisk v17.2 adds obfuscation for PS4 Remote Play, workaround for Fate/Grand Order, and more
Magisk v17.2 is here, and it adds obfuscation for PS4 Remote Play, a workaround for Fate/Grand Order and Fortnite and more.
Magisk is one of the best ways to root your phone, and not just because it's one of the only ways to do so on most devices. Magisk makes modifications entirely without modifying the /system partition and aims to bypass detection methods such as SafetyNet. It works extremely well except for a few games such as Fortnite and PS4 Remote Play, but Magisk v17.2 actually adds support for those applications as well! You can check out the full changelog below. Previously, the only way to play these games was to use the canary version of Magisk, which isn't recommended unless you're a developer for a number of reasons.
If you are lucky enough to own both a PlayStation 4 console and a Sony Xperia smartphone or tablet, then you might be aware of a service available to you: Remote Play, an app that enables you to play PS4 games on your smartphone by streaming it through your console.
