Alleged Snapdragon 775 leak details Qualcomm's next upper mid-range SoC
A new leak has shed some light on the alleged Qualcomm Snapdragon 775, an upgrade over the mid-premium Snapdragon 765G. Read on!
Qualcomm captures a good part of the Android smartphone market, and for good reason. The company offers a rather extensive portfolio of SoC options to phone OEMs, starting from the budget options that we see on Android Go devices, all the way up to the flagship 8xx series SoC that we see on top-tier Android smartphones. Of this wide portfolio, SoCs like the Snapdragon 765 and 765G stand out, as they offer features seen in flagship-tier products while maintaining a lower price and better value proposition. Qualcomm is preparing to launch a successor to the Snapdragon 765, and a new leak has shed light on the alleged Qualcomm Snapdragon 775 and its key specifications.
The €349 Moto G 5G Plus brings 5G, 48MP quad cameras, and a 90Hz display
Motorola is combining it's flagship and mid-range strategies with the mid-range, 5G-enabled Moto G 5G Plus, coming to Europe this week.
Motorola burst back into the flagship scene earlier this year with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865-powered, 5G-enabled Motorola Edge+. Alongside the Edge+, Motorola also unveiled the slightly cheaper Edge with the upper mid-range (but still 5G-enabled) Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G. Now, Motorola has announced an even more affordable 5G-enabled smartphone in the Moto G 5G Plus.
[Update: Launching on July 10] Alleged survey may have just leaked the OnePlus Z specs and pricing
A survey on PayBack has shed light on the specifications and Indian pricing of the upcoming OnePlus Z with its Snapdragon 765 SoC and 64MP triple camera!
It's been a while since OnePlus made an affordable phone. The OnePlus One, OnePlus 2, and the OnePlus X were perhaps the only devices in the product lineup that could inarguably be called affordable. All the flagships since then have introduced a price creep, some greater than others. Today, the current generation cheapest device from the company is at a healthy ₹41,999 in India, and $699/€699 internationally. The flagship products may still be considered worth their price, but they are certainly priced above what a lot of users would be comfortable paying for a smartphone. OnePlus was looking to remedy that with the OnePlus Z this year (leaked earlier as the OnePlus 8 Lite). Now, a new leak sheds light on the possible specifications as well as the possible pricing of the OnePlus Z.
The Samsung Galaxy A71s 5G UW may launch on Verizon with support for the carrier's Ultrawide Band network
The upcoming Samsung Galaxy A71s 5G UW may be the first mid-range Android smartphone to support Verizon's growing mmWave Ultrawide Band network.
Flagship smartphones have become really expensive this year, with many at or beyond the $1,000 mark. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 is apparently a really expensive chip because it doesn't come with a modem and also 5G is just really complex. Fortunately, there's the cheaper (but less powerful) Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 which includes an integrated 5G modem. We earlier found evidence that the U.S.-bound Galaxy A71 5G will feature this chipset when it lands on Verizon. There was some doubt about whether the Verizon model will support the carrier's Ultrawide Band network when it launches, but now, we've spotted evidence that the device will indeed support Verizon's mmWave network.
The Google Pixel 5 will almost certainly not have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865, and we have even more evidence
There have been rumblings of Google bowing out of the "flagship" market. Now, there's more evidence that the Google Pixel 5 will have the Snapdragon 765.
The Google Pixel 4a has been receiving a lot of attention lately as its announcement quickly approaches. After the Pixel 4a is announced, however, the rumor mill will move on to the Google Pixel 5. Not much is explicitly known about the device series yet, but there have been rumblings since early January of Google bowing out of the "flagship" market. Now, we're fairly confident in saying that the Google Pixel 5 will indeed not be a "flagship" device in the sense that it will have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 rather than the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865.
LG Velvet unveiled with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 and Stylus support
After weeks of leaks and teasers, LG has now officially launched the LG Velvet in Korea, featuring a Snapdragon 765 and Wacom stylus support.
Rumors about LG planning to shelve its flagship G-series in favor of a Snapdragon 700-series powered mid-range devices first materialized early last month when the company shared sketches of its new design approach. Soon thereafter, the company published a teaser video for the LG Velvet that showed off the phone in its entirety. The teaser also confirmed that the device would feature Qualcomm's Snapdragon 765 chipset. Towards the end of last month, the company confirmed some key specifications and, just a few days ago, we also got to see some hands-on images of the device. As per the launch schedule teased earlier, the company has now officially unveiled the LG Velvet in South Korea.
[Update: Hands-on images] LG Velvet specifications confirmed ahead of next month's launch
LG has confirmed some of the key specifications of the LG Velvet. The phone will pack a 6,8-inch curved display, Snapdragon 765 and 4,300 mAh battery.
Last month, we learned that LG might bid farewell to the flagship LG G series and could introduce a mid-range smartphone under a new branding. LG later confirmed its plan to replace the G series with a new brand and gave us our first look at the LG Velvet, the first phone in the Velvet lineup. This was followed by a teaser video that showcased the phone in its entirety and gave us a closer look at the design language. LG isn't stopping here as it has now gone ahead and confirmed some of the key specifications of the LG Velvet.
LG shows off the design of its Velvet smartphone and confirms it has the Snapdragon 765
Instead of the LG G9 ThinQ, LG will unveil a new smartphone brand called the LG Velvet. LG has now shown off this phone in a teaser video.
LG's smartphone business struggled in 2019, so the company is hoping to turn things around this year with an "offensive pricing policy" for "mass-premium and mass-tier 5G products." While the LG V60 ThinQ (our review) is definitely less expensive than its direct competitors, it's likely not what LG meant when they were talking about their new "offensive pricing policy." Instead, it's believed that the new "LG Velvet," the first smartphone in the Velvet line that's expected to replace the LG G line, will be the standard-bearer for LG's revitalized smartphone business. LG teased the design of the Velvet through sketches they published last week, but now the company has published a teaser video that shows off the phone in its entirety.
Qualcomm uploads some of the Snapdragon 865 and Snapdragon 765 sources on CAF
Over on the Code Aurora Forums, Qualcomm has released some of the source code for their Snapdragon 865 and Snapdragon 765 mobile platforms.
Back in December of 2019 during the Snapdragon Tech Summit, Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 865 and Snapdragon 765 mobile platforms. These chipsets are Qualcomm's most powerful flagship and upper mid-range SoCs to date, and they're already shipping on a number of premium devices such as the Samsung Galaxy S20 (865), Xiaomi Mi 10 (865), OnePlus 8 (865), and OPPO Reno3 Pro (765). Over 4 months since Qualcomm first announced these SoCs, the company has started to upload some of the sources associated with the two mobile platforms.
[Update: LG's statement] LG may drop the G series brand and launch a mid-range Snapdragon 765 phone later this year
LG is apparently planning to drop the G series of smartphones instead of launching an LG G9. Instead, we might see a mid-range phone.
LG's mobile division has been tumbling for a while; that's not a secret to anyone. And that is precisely the reason why they may be looking into shaking things up internally to renew interest. Last year, they disrupted their normal release cycle — an LG G-series smartphone by the start of the year and an LG V-series phone by the end of the year — to announce both the LG G8 and the LG V50 at the same time. This year, however, we only saw the LG V60 (which our own Joe Fedewa is currently reviewing) with no signs of an LG G9 anywhere. While we've heard of a whole host of rumors regarding this device, we might end up not seeing an LG G9 after all.
Exclusive: This is Motorola's Next 5G Phone with a Curved "Waterfall" 90Hz Display
Motorola's upcoming pair of upper mid-range and flagship phones are likely in the new Motorola One 2020 series. Here's what we know so far.
Motorola recently celebrated the success of its Moto G line, and later this month at MWC 2020, the Lenovo-owned company will introduce 3 new devices to the Moto G line. Alongside the new smartphones in the Moto G series, Motorola is also expected to launch two new high-end smartphones. Motorola notably hasn't launched a flagship phone since the Moto Z3, and even that device could barely pass as a flagship given it featured a then year-old Snapdragon 835. Today, we've received the first live images of one of the two new Motorola devices from our trusted source, and we've also gathered a lot of information about the specifications and features of the two phones. We've heard the marketing name "Motorola One 2020" used in reference to these phones, though we aren't 100% confident that Motorola will go ahead with this branding. In any case, here's what we know.
Google may be working on 2 mid-range Pixel phones for 2020: One with the 5G Snapdragon 765 and another with the 4G Snapdragon 730
We found code-names for what could be Google's mid-range 2020 Pixel phones. One will have the 5G-enabled Snapdragon 765 and the other the 4G Snapdragon 730.
Every October, we expect Google to release a new Pixel smartphone to compete for the best Android phones around. In 2016, the company unveiled its first-generation Pixel and Pixel XL. In 2017, we saw the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. There were no surprises in 2018 when Google announced the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. Last year, however, Google threw a curveball by announcing the first mid-range Pixel phones in the Pixel 3a and 3a XL at Google I/O 2019. Though the company did later reveal the Pixel 4 and 4 XL in October of last year, the introduction of the 3a series has us anticipating a follow-up for this year. Indeed, @Onleaks, a famous leaker of smartphones, shared CAD renders of what's likely going to be the mid-2020 Pixel 4a.
TCL announces the 10 5G, 10L, and 10 Pro: Affordable Mid-Range Smartphones for North America
TCL is the latest brand to release 5G smartphones with affordable price. TCL 10 5G has an AI quad-camera module and Snapdragon 765 system-on-chip.
The Consumer Electronics Show 2020 is full of surprises for the technology industry. At the event, Chinese electronics brand TCL had a few surprises in terms of smartphones. Rather than announcing yet another Alcatel-branded device, the company announced its first self-branded smartphones, one of which also happens to be the first 5G-capable phone from the company.
Coolpad's 5G phone costs under $400 and packs impressive hardware
The Coolpad Legacy 5G comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 and 5G support, promising impressive 5G-capable hardware for under $400. Read on to know more!
If you're looking for an affordable smartphone in the United States, then Coolpad is one of the brands that you'll likely come across. The company is well known as an entry-level brand, but last year, they pivoted to become a more family-oriented brand with products like the Dyno smartwatch and FamilyLabs application. While major smartphone brands heavily market their high-end (and expensive) 5G devices, Coolpad aims to democratize 5G access by bringing a 5G device below the $400 price point. At CES 2020, the company announced a family of Legacy 5G devices, starting with the Coolpad Legacy 5G. It's the first 5G smartphone from Coolpad, and it's likely the cheapest 5G smartphone coming to the U.S.
Qualcomm announces the Snapdragon 765 with the Snapdragon X52 5G modem and support for 120Hz displays and 192MP cameras
At the 2019 Snapdragon Tech Summit, Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 765 and Snapdragon 765G, a pair of premium, mid-range 5G SoCs for smartphones.
Facing increased competition from MediaTek, Huawei, and Samsung in price and spec-conscientious markets like India and China, Qualcomm created a new Snapdragon 700 series of upper mid-range chipsets last year. The 700 series brings the best of Qualcomm’s premium 800 series but at a lower price point. The most recent iteration, the Snapdragon 730, even introduced a gaming variant to meet the growing demand of the mobile gaming industry. Now, Qualcomm is once again introducing a new member to the 700 series: the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765. The new SoC brings support for 5G connectivity, high refresh rate displays, and high-quality imaging to the mid-range price tier.
