Sometimes it takes Xiaomi a long time to release the kernel source code for a device they sell, but other times it can come rather hastily. While the Chinese OEM's timeliness factor remains questionable, a kernel source release still excites the aftermarket development community, whenever it does land. And we are happy to report that a handful of new devices have had their kernel sources released, namely the Redmi 9, the Redmi 9 Power (sold as the Redmi Note 9 4G in China), and the Mi 10T Lite AKA the Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G.

The global pandemic disrupted how most smartphone brands operate. Xiaomi's spin-off brand Redmi, which has been launching two Redmi Note generations per year since 2018, could not push past launching the 9th series. While the Redmi Note 9 and the Redmi Note 9 Pro/Pro Max were launched in India and parts of Europe earlier this year, they were not launched in China. Last month, when Xiaomi did finally launch the Redmi Note 9 series in China, these devices turned out to be entirely new SKUs. Out of these new devices, the Redmi Note 9 4G (China) (codenamed lime) is now making its way to India where it will be called the Redmi 9 Power (limein). The Redmi 9 Power gets its name from the large 6,000mAh battery that powers the device.

Xiaomi launches a lot of phones every year, which is par for the course for a big OEM that operates in multiple markets. Just last week, Xiaomi launched the new Redmi Note 9 4G (device codename: lime), Redmi Note 9 5G (cannon), and Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G (gauguinpro) in China, bringing along a bunch of upgrades across the board for one of its most popular product brandings. Now, we have evidence that suggests Xiaomi is looking to bring two of these three phones to India, but curiously under different branding, namely as the Redmi 9 Power and the Xiaomi Mi 10i.

Since Thanksgiving is not a thing in China, it's business as usual today as Xiaomi's sub-brand Redmi announced three new devices and a smartwatch. The company took to the stage to announce the new Redmi Note 9 4G, Redmi Note 9 5G, Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G, and the Redmi Watch. But before you move ahead, keep in mind that these devices are not to be confused with the Redmi Note 9 that was launched globally earlier in the year.
