Compared to the global Android device variants, US models have a reputation for being slow with software updates. The OEMs hoped to improve upon that with their close collaboration with the carriers, but the results have been mixed at best. The US Samsung Galaxy A32 5G model, for example, received the One UI 4.1 update more than two weeks after its international counterpart. The saga continues, as the Korean OEM is now bringing Android 12 to two more phones in the US weeks after the global rollout. The US variants of the Galaxy A42 5G and the Galaxy A71 5G are the latest Samsung A-series devices to get a taste of One UI 4 with Android 12.

In November last year, Samsung shared the One UI 4 rollout schedule for all eligible devices. According to the schedule, the company was supposed to release One UI 4 based on Android 12 to all of its recent flagships by the end of last year. And while there were quite a few setbacks, Samsung has successfully managed to push One UI 4 to almost all of them. In fact, the company has even rolled out One UI 4 to two mid-range Galaxy A series phones -- the Galaxy A52 4G and the Galaxy A72 -- and it doesn't seem to be slowing down. The Galaxy A42 5G and the Galaxy A52 5G are the next in line to receive the One UI 4 treatment, and the update has already started rolling out to some users.

Smartphone OEMs typically reserve optical image stabilization (OIS) for the primary and telephoto cameras on flagship devices. They rarely offer the feature on mid-range and budget-friendly phones, shipping the devices with electronic image stabilization (EIS) instead. But Samsung has launched a couple of mid-range Galaxy A series devices with OIS on the primary camera this year, and the company is reportedly planning on extending the feature to more Galaxy A series phones next year.

Samsung sells many different budget phones, and it can definitely be difficult to figure out where each one falls. The Galaxy A42 5G was released last year in Europe and other regions, and Samsung just brought it to the United States in April. The phone sits somewhere in the middle of Samsung's budget lineup, with a Snapdragon 750G chipset, a large screen, and 5G connectivity.
