Samsung has been quite generous with rolling out its One UI 3.1 update based on Android 11. Aside from last year’s flagships such as the Samsung Galaxy S20 and the Galaxy Note 20 getting the update, older mid-rangers such as the Galaxy A50/A50s, Galaxy A70, and even some Galaxy M series devices have already received the latest software release. Several other Samsung Galaxy smartphones will be receiving a taste of Android 11 later this year, but the Exynos 7885-powered Galaxy A7, Galaxy A8, and the Galaxy A8 Plus will be left out. So if you own either of the three devices from 2018 and want to experience Android 11 with Samsung’s latest One UI skin, your wish has been granted – albeit unofficially.

The latest version of Samsung's in-house Android skin, i.e. One UI 2.1, is currently available on the Galaxy Z Flip as well as on the Galaxy S20 series, while phones like the Galaxy Note 10, S10, Note 9, and S9 are scheduled to get the update soon. On the other hand, a bunch of  'A' series mid-rangers from the company have received the One UI 2.0 update on top of Android 10. The list includes the Galaxy A30, Galaxy A50s, Galaxy A70, Galaxy A70s and the Galaxy A6 (2018) so far, but now we have three new candidates in the roster. The One UI 2.0 update is reportedly hitting the Galaxy A7 (2018), Galaxy A80 and the Galaxy A40 units in selected regions.

Smartphones have improved a lot over the years. That's a pretty obvious statement when it comes to flagship phones, but it's even more apparent in the mid-range sector. What qualifies as a "mid-range" device these days is very respectable, and it just keeps getting better. Samsung has been making a big push to bring premium features to their mid-range devices lately. Wireless charging could be the next addition.

In 2018, smartphones are launching at an increasingly quick rate. The mid-range segment was a bit barren for a few years, but this year, companies like Xiaomi, Samsung, OPPO, Vivo, Nokia, and others are filling the gap. With respect to the Galaxy A series, Samsung has already launched the Galaxy A6, Galaxy A6+, Galaxy A8, Galaxy A8+, and the Galaxy A8 Star this year. The Galaxy A series is typically not competitive against affordable flagships from the likes of Xiaomi, Asus, and OnePlus, and the aforementioned phones haven't done anything to change this fact. Samsung, however, isn't giving up. The Samsung Galaxy A7 (2018) has now been launched in India, and its defining feature is the presence of triple rear cameras.
