TWRP is now available for the Samsung Galaxy A20/A30, 2019 SHIELD TV, and Realme 6/7

The TWRP recovery is now officially available for a handful of new devices: the Galaxy A20/A30, the NVIDIA SHIELD TV, and the Realme 6/7.

It's always good news when a new device gets official support for the TWRP custom recovery. While the rise of GSIs and projects like Magisk has made recoveries not as essential as they were in the past as you can now successfully root or even change operating systems without flashing a custom recovery on newer devices, having one does streamline the process and make things way easier, not to mention that you also get several handy features to streamline the flashing process. TWRP is now officially available for a handful of devices: the Galaxy A20, the Galaxy A30, the Realme 6, the Realme 7, and the 2019 NVIDIA SHIELD TV.

Samsung kicked off its Android 10 update rollout with the Galaxy S10 series in October last year. The company then went on to update its other premium phones including the Galaxy Note 10, Galaxy S9 series, Galaxy Note 9 series. Samsung even released a roadmap detailing various mid-range and budget smartphones it had planned to update to One UI‌ 2.0. As per the update roadmap, the company has been busy rolling out the Android 10 update to its mid-range and entry-level smartphones since the start of the year. Samsung recently rolled out One UI 2.0 with Android 10 to the Galaxy A10, Galaxy A20e, and Galaxy Xcover 4s. Now, the budget Galaxy A20 and Galaxy A20s have also joined the list.

Even though Samsung saw a significant decline in sales in Q1 2019, the company seems to have picked up the pace with its Galaxy A series in Q3 2019. According to the latest report from Counterpoint Research, three smartphones from the company's Galaxy A series have made it to the top-selling list in the third quarter of this year.

Samsung's Galaxy A line of devices was easily one of this year's greatest surprises. While Galaxy A smartphones have existed for years, they used to be more in the "premium" mid-range segment, with other lines such as the Galaxy J filling the budget smartphone market. Now, the Galaxy A line covers all kinds of devices, from cheap budget phones such as the Galaxy A10 all the way up to flagship-specced phones such as the Galaxy A90 5G. Samsung has also started to release smaller revisions to already existing devices in this range, with the Galaxy A20s being the latest.

The Samsung Galaxy A50 is coming to the US along with the Galaxy A20 and A10e. There have been hints of this happening going all the way back to April and as recent as last week. The A Series has been one of Samsung's most successful mid-range lineups and a testing ground for bleeding edge features. These devices have not been available in the US, but that changes this Summer.

Netflix is evergrowing and added almost 10 million subscribers in the last quarter globally a lot of people actually enjoy streaming it on their mobile devices. Over the last year, Widevine L1 license has almost become a popular criterion for buying a smartphone or a tablet and this shows that prefer a quality viewing experience. Although Widewine L1 is the preliminary step to being able to binge any over the top video content in HD, Netflix videos are still limited to 480p unless the device is certified by the company and the process involves certain additional quality checks. Now, as many as 23 smartphones and tablets are getting added to this roster of supported devices while select others are also getting support for HDR content.

There's been a lot of buzz about Samsung lately, what with the launch of the Galaxy S10 and the fiasco that was the Galaxy Fold. But Samsung is not just all about high-end phones. Their Galaxy A and Galaxy J series suit many consumers whose budget may not be as high. The mid-range Galaxy A series, for example, tends to be a good compromise between price and power.  Samsung continues to release various models of the Galaxy A series in India, and they are typically well-received. However, there have no been indications of a US release thus far.

If you're out in the market, buying or just checking out Samsung's smartphones, the variety and the vastness in the range of products can be intimidating. The South Korean giant has a smartphone for every pocket and need. While the Galaxy S and the Note series - being at the top-end - generate most of the interest, the Galaxy J series hold a large share of the budget segment in markets such as India, Latin America, parts of Europe, etc. due to its affordable pricing. However, a continued beating in fast-growing markets has prompted Samsung to launch a new Galaxy M series and revamp the Galaxy A series, as well as to ax the older J series.

While we were busy looking at the leaked renders of the Samsung Galaxy A40, Samsung has gone ahead and released the Samsung Galaxy A20 in Russia. The Galaxy A20 joins in the crowded Samsung device portfolio consisting of the Samsung Galaxy M10, Galaxy M20, Galaxy M30 as well as the Samsung Galaxy A10, Galaxy A30 and Galaxy A50.
