Android 10 rolling out to Samsung Galaxy M20 and Galaxy M30 in India

Samsung has now started rolling out One UI 2.0 based on Android 10 for its budget-friendly Galaxy M20 and Galaxy M30 in India.

Back in October, Samsung officially announced the Android 10-based One UI 2.0 beta program for its flagship Galaxy S10 series. Since then, the company has extended the beta program to a number of devices in the Galaxy S and Note lineup, and it has even started rolling out stable Android 10 updates for some of the devices. Interestingly, the One UI 2.0 rollout doesn't fall in line with the update schedule Samsung shared late last month. As per the schedule, devices in the Galaxy S and Note series, along with the Galaxy M20 and M30, were expected to receive the update early next year in January, while other budget and mid-range devices were scheduled to receive the update much later. It seems like Samsung has just completely disregarded the Android 10 update schedule it shared earlier because the company has now started rolling out Android 10 to the Galaxy M20 and Galaxy M30 in India.

Earlier this year, Samsung streamlined its objectives to tackle Xiaomi's price-effective offerings in India and launched the online-only Galaxy M series targetted at young users. Having sold 2 million units of the Galaxy M10, Galaxy M20, and the Galaxy M30 collectively, Samsung appears to have succeeded to quite an extent. Last month, the company started teasing another new addition to this series – the Galaxy M40 – which has now been launched in India. The Galaxy M40 brings a hole punch display design to the sub-₹20,000 (~$290) segment and features a triple camera setup and 6GB RAM and with these aesthetics of a premium smartphone, invades the territory dominated by the likes of POCO F1.

Digital Rights Management, or DRM, is a controversial topic among tech enthusiasts, with many arguing against its inclusion in PC video games. Regardless of your thoughts on the concept of DRM, there's little you can do to get around it on Android devices. Netflix on Android will only let you stream video content in HD or HDR if your device has Widevine L1 support, but even then, support isn't guaranteed as we've seen on the Xiaomi POCO F1. Netflix whitelists devices and chipsets for HD playback and they've just added a couple of new smartphones and Qualcomm chipsets to the list.
