First Google Camera port with Night Sight working for the Xiaomi Mi 5, Essential Phone
The first Google Camera port with a working Night Sight mode has been released, and it so far works on the Xiaomi Mi 5 and the Essential Phone.
When Google unveiled the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, they also announced a new camera feature that wasn't available at launch: Night Sight. Google showcased the feature by comparing a photo taken in low light conditions by an Apple iPhone Xs and a Google Pixel 3 with Night Sight enabled. The photo taken by the Pixel 3 was clearly superior, but it wasn't until XDA Senior Member cstark27 released a modified version of the Google Camera app enabling Night Sight ahead of its general availability that people realized just how incredible Night Sight really is. The modified version only worked on the Google Pixel, Google Pixel 2, and Google Pixel 3, but now XDA Senior Member Arnova8G2 has released a port of Google's camera app with a working Night Sight mode. So far, it has been confirmed to work on the Xiaomi Mi 5 (by the developer himself) as well as on the Essential Phone (by us and multiple community members.)

Xiaomi announced MIUI 10 in India yesterday. As they claim, the system's new version is "faster than fast." The four main focus points are speed, design, sound, and AI portraits. The first devices with MIUI 10 are the smartphones that are eligible for entry into the China Beta ROM (or can flash it manually). Xiaomi's representatives talked about a lot of things, so I'll do my best to break them down.

The Xiaomi Mi 8, Mi 8 Explorer Edition, and the Mi 8 SE were recently launched at an event in China. With the three smartphone announcements came the release of a MIUI 10 China Developer ROM for several devices. The new "AI" features that Xiaomi is highlighting for the release include AI Preload and AI Portrait. MIUI 10 also brings changes to nearly every aspect of the system UI such as a redesigned lock screen, notifications, recent apps, quick settings, volume panel, and more. Parts of the new UI are reminiscent of the design seen in Android P. If you want to try out this new version of MIUI, you can either wait for Xiaomi to release a Global Beta ROM or sideload the China Beta ROM right now so long as you have the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2, Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S, Xiaomi Mi 5, Xiaomi Mi 6, Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro, or Xiaomi Mi Note 2. At an event in China, Xiaomi announced MIUI 10, the successor of MIUI 9, alongside the launch of the Mi 8, Mi 8 Explorer Edition, and the Mi 8 SE.

How to flash a Generic System Image (GSI) on Project Treble supported devices
So your device supports Project Treble, what does that mean for you? It means you can flash a Generic System Image such as LineageOS or Resurrection Remix! Enjoy AOSP-based custom ROMs! Here's a guide on how to install these ROMs.
If you've only heard of Project Treble in passing but haven't looked into it all that much, then you may have heard that it's supposed to help major Android updates roll out more quickly. At XDA, there's another benefit that we've spoken about at length: the ability to boot an AOSP Generic System Image (GSI) on any supported device. This means that devices that were once running heavily customized Android versions like Samsung Experience on the Samsung Galaxy S9 or EMUI 8 on the Huawei Mate 10 Pro can alternatively run software closer to that of the Google Pixel 2.
Here's a list of Android devices updated with Project Treble support
Project Treble is a major re-architecture of the way Android works. The result is that Android software updates should come faster on devices that support it. Also, it opens up a whole new avenue of custom ROMs. Check out if your device supports it!
Whereas Apple is able to keep most of their devices, even many older ones, up to date with the latest software (which sometimes involve rather controversial features), Android device makers have varying degrees of success keeping their devices up to date. Some device makers like Essential and Google are pretty good at providing security patches, while others can delay updates by months at a time. That's without considering major software updates such as from Android Nougat to Android Oreo, a software release which is installed on only slightly more than 1% of all Android devices. To combat slow Android updates, Google introduced Project Treble.
