LineageOS is one of the best custom ROMs available, bringing new versions of Android and a lightweight, near-stock experience to a variety of phones and tablets from different OEMs. Since its release in December, the latest iteration of the aftermarket software, LineageOS 20, has steadily expanded its reach. The development team has now added support for four more devices, including the Poco X3, SHIFT SHIFT6mq, Xiaomi Mi 6, and the Mi Mix 2.

Towards the end of last month, the team added support for the OnePlus Nord N200, Fairphone 3, and Redmi 7. Now, it's extending support to five more devices -- the Xiaomi Mi 6, Moto G 5G, Moto G 5G Plus, Moto Edge, and ZUK Z2 Plus.

Earlier this year in April, the team behind the popular Paranoid Android custom ROM released Paranoid Android Quartz 1 — the first stable Android 10-based build of the ROM. At first, the ROM was released for a handful of devices and it included a ton of new features, like screen stabilization, a built-in screen recorder, FOD support, vibration adapted UI, and more. Soon thereafter, the team released Quartz 2 with 4 new features and support for more devices. And now, the team has started rolling out Paranoid Android Quartz 3 with support for 8 Xiaomi devices and a couple of new features.

Earlier this month, the team behind the popular Paranoid Android custom ROM released Paranoid Android Quartz 1 — the first stable Android 10-based build of the ROM — for a handful of devices. While there have been several unofficial Paranoid Android builds floating around on our forums, Paranoid Android Quartz 1 was the first stable release from the team since their Android Nougat-based builds. For the initial stable release, the team added a boatload of features to the ROM, including things like screen stabilization, a built-in screen recorder, FOD support, vibration adapted UI, and more. Building upon the feedback on the Quartz 1 release, the team is now rolling out Paranoid Android Quartz 2 with 4 new features and support for a few more devices.

LineageOS may be the most popular custom ROM out there, but that doesn't mean there aren't also other popular aftermarket builds. Custom ROMs like Pixel Experience, OmniROM, Resurrection Remix, and Paranoid Android also have a large number of fans. Each of these custom ROMs offer their own take on what the Android experience should be like. Paranoid Android was known for its style and innovative features back in the day, and even if they aren't as large as they used to be after their original members were scouted by Nextbit (and later Razer), their remaining team members are still releasing new builds from time to time. After releasing a few beta builds based on Android 10 back in October, the Paranoid Android team has now announced the first stable releases for a handful of devices including the Essential Phone and a few others from ASUS, OnePlus, and Xiaomi.

MIUI 11 is the newest big release for Xiaomi smartphones, perhaps even bigger than an Android version jump. Features on Xiaomi devices are dictated more by their MIUI versions than the underlying Android version, so an MIUI version upgrade is an exciting event. MIUI 11 was announced in China in September 2019, bringing along new features such as animated AOD and Horizon Light for supported devices, new font, dynamic sound system, Mi Work and Mi Go app suites, and more changes. The first batch of MIUI 11 Betas was available for a bunch of devices, and over the next few weeks, devices like the Redmi K20 have begun receiving their stable MIUI 11 updates. Now, Xiaomi has officially confirmed that stable MIUI 11 update is rolling out to the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro, Redmi 7, Redmi Note 5 Pro and the Poco F1.

Android 10 is finally here, and it brings along a lot of goodies that software enthusiasts will appreciate. Officially, stable Android 10 is available on Google Pixel devices, the Essential Phone, and the Xiaomi Redmi K20 Pro, while beta builds can be found for the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro, and Samsung had been spotted testing the update with OneUI 2.0 for the Snapdragon and Exynos Samsung Galaxy S10 and Exynos Samsung Galaxy Note 10. Source code for the new release is already up and available at AOSP, which brought to us the first Android 10 custom ROM, that too on the ASUS ZenFone Max Pro M1 with practically no bugs. Now, more Android 10 custom ROMs have begun sprouting up for devices like the Xiaomi POCO F1, the Xiaomi Mi 6, the Xiaomi Mi 8 and the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5.

MIUI 10.4.1.0 Global brings stable Android Pie to the Xiaomi Mi 6

A month after MIUI 10 global beta, Xiaomi has rolled out a stable Android Pie update for its 2017 flaghsip - the Xiaomi Mi 6.

Xiaomi launched the Mi 6 in 2017 as its flagship device and the smartphone ran on MIUI 8 which was based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat. Over the last two years, Xiaomi updated the Mi 6 with at least one incremental Android update and two MIUI updates. MIUI 10 was released for the smartphone last August and the update was based on Android 8.1 Oreo. We know very well that Xiaomi likes to keep a clear distinction between its MIUI updates as well as incremental Android updates – as well as prioritize the former. Being a two-year-old device, it sat low on the priority list for an Android Pie update and Xiaomi even mulled dropping support for it, reasoning that it had already brought the latest features via MIUI updates.

Kernel sources for the Red Magic 3 and Xiaomi Mi 6/Mi Mix 2's Android Pie updates are now available

The kernel source code is available for the Xiaomi Mi 6 and Xiaomi Mi Mix 2's recent Android Pie updates, as well as for the Red Magic 3 by Nubia.

Since Android is built on top of the Linux kernel, Android device makers have to provide, upon customer request, the source code for any Linux kernel binaries that ship on their devices. That includes not only the release date software but also any subsequent updates to the kernel. Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi started rolling out global beta Android 9 Pie updates for the Xiaomi Mi 6 and Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 earlier this year, and now they've released the updated kernel source code for both devices. Unlike those two devices, the Red Magic 3 by Nubia is a recent addition to the smartphone scene, and it's only had one update since release. However, the kernel source code for this device has also been released.

Xiaomi recently announced that it will be shutting its Global Beta ROMs for all devices, with effect from July 1, 2019. Public beta ROMs, though are presumed to be Beta in nature, have been stable enough for a lot of users to use it as a daily driver mainly because of the rather frequent nature of updates. This came with the drawback that a lot of these users would not provide feedback to Xiaomi through the relevant channels, defeating some of the purposes of the program and living with a not-so-stable MIUI experience. Now, Xiaomi is looking for a closed group of beta testers who wish to try out the upcoming Android Q update to the Poco F1, as well as Android Pie updates to the Xiaomi Mi 6, Xiaomi Redmi 6 and Xiaomi Redmi 6A.

MIUI is available in two forms: MIUI China Stable and MIUI Global Stable. The two ROMs have important differences in functionality, as Global ROMs are intended for a global audience. MIUI Global ROMs have Google Play services integration, while MIUI China ROMs don't come with Google Play services are integrated with Xiaomi's online services. Languages and region-specific functionality are different as well. It's important to keep the above the mind when dealing with MIUI 10. MIUI 10 China was announced by Xiaomi alongside the Xiaomi Mi 8, Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition, and the Xiaomi Mi 8 SE at an event in China in May. MIUI 10 Global, on the other hand, was announced at the Xiaomi Redmi Y2 event in India last month.
