Xiaomi has confirmed that it is going to bring back its popular Mi MIX series of smartphones. The last handset that we saw from the series was the Mi MIX Alpha last year, which was primarily a concept device with an insane wrap-around display. The newest addition to the Mi MIX family will be introduced at an event on March 29, where Xiaomi is also expected to launch the Mi 11 Ultra.
The Mi Mix Alpha: Xiaomi's crazy phone with a wrap-around display
Here are our first impressions of Xiaomi's Mi MIX Alpha, a concept smartphone featuring a wrap-around display with minimal bezels.
Xiaomi launched the first device in the Mi MIX lineup all the way back in 2016, featuring a revolutionary bezel-less display. The device was launched as a concept phone that only intended to showcase what smartphones could look like in the future. But its success triggered the launch of a new series from Xiaomi that showed off innovative technologies like the piezoelectric earpiece solution on the Mi MIX and the slider mechanism on the Mi MIX 3. Late last year, Xiaomi launched another concept smartphone as part of the Mi MIX series, taking innovation to a whole new level. The Mi MIX Alpha features a wrap-around pOLED display that continues over the edges all the way around to the back, giving the smartphone an unbelievable 180.6% screen-to-body ratio. We recently got a chance to experience the Mi MIX Alpha first hand at a media briefing in New Delhi and here are our first impressions of the device.
[Update: Delayed indefinitely] The Xiaomi Mi MIX Alpha has a surround-display design, 180% screen-to-body ratio, and costs $2800
At an event in China, Xiaomi has shown off its surround-display smartphone, the new Mi MIX Alpha, with a screen-to-body ratio of 180% and a $2800 price tag!
Xiaomi's Mi MIX lineup was first introduced as a revolutionary product with a nearly bezel-less display. The concept has matured over the generations with the Mi MIX 2 and the Mi MIX 2S. and with the fourth MIX smartphone, Xiaomi is doing something unique and futuristic. The Mi MIX Alpha is another major leap forward for Xiaomi, as it comes with a display that wraps around the edges and continues on to the back. This makes for a two-sided display but without any discontinuity apart from a thin strip for the camera assembly. The Mi MIX Alpha gets a screen-to-body ratio of 180.6%.
