The custom ROM‌ development scene is in full swing over on the XDA‌ forums. Ever since Google published the Android 11 source code, aftermarket developers have been relentlessly working toward making the latest flavor of Android accessible to more and more devices. The Redmi K20 Pro/Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro was the first phone to receive an AOSP-based Android 11 ROM and since then, the list of devices with unofficial Android 11 ports has grown substantially. Earlier this month, we saw the modding community bring Android 11 custom ROMs to devices such as the OnePlus One and the Google Nexus 5. Now, four more guests have joined the party as Android 11 custom ROMs are now available for the Sony Xperia 5 II, Xperia XZ1, Xperia XZ1 Compact, and the Xiaomi Mi Note 2.

The LineageOS infrastructure faced a security breach in early May, which caused almost a month-long pause in the team's workflow. Fortunately, the team managed to get back on track after fixing the issue, and they have now added a bunch of Motorola and Xiaomi phones to the official LineageOS 17.1 roster.

MIUI 11 is the newest big release for Xiaomi smartphones, perhaps even bigger than an Android version jump. Features on Xiaomi devices are dictated more by their MIUI versions than the underlying Android version, so an MIUI version upgrade is an exciting event. MIUI 11 was announced in China in September 2019, bringing along new features such as animated AOD and Horizon Light for supported devices, new font, dynamic sound system, Mi Work and Mi Go app suites, and more changes. The first batch of MIUI 11 Betas was available for a bunch of devices, and over the next few weeks, devices like the Redmi K20 have begun receiving their stable MIUI 11 updates. Now, Xiaomi has officially confirmed that stable MIUI 11 update is rolling out to the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro, Redmi 7, Redmi Note 5 Pro and the Poco F1.

MIUI 10 is the latest version of Xiaomi's custom build of Android. It has a number of features that aren't present in stock Android, and a few improvements over previous iterations. With a heavier focus on AI and the inclusion of all of the latest features from Android Oreo, MIUI 10 is the best version of MIUI yet. It has arrived on a number of different devices by Xiaomi by the way of both Chinese and Global beta ROMs, and that list is growing every day. The Global Stable version of MIUI 10 is now here for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro, the Xiaomi Mi 5, the Xiaomi Mi 6, the Xiaomi Mi Mix, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 and the Xiaomi Mi Note 2.

Testing Fortnite Mobile on Android's performance: Can your device handle Fortnite?

Fortnite Mobile on Android is here for devices with the Snapdragon 820/821, 835, 845, & Kirin 970. We tested the game's performance!

Just as Epic Games promised would happen, the free-to-play battle royale game 'Fortnite' finally became available last week. For the first 3 days of its release, the game was limited the Samsung Galaxy S7, Galaxy S8, Galaxy S9, Galaxy Note 8, Galaxy Note 9, Galaxy Tab S3, and Galaxy Tab S4. We expected a much longer exclusivity period, possibly limited to just the Note 9 and Galaxy Tab S4, but it turns out the exclusive content is just a free skin and 15,000 V-Bucks (the in-game currency.) Now that the game is officially available for non-Samsung devices, we decided to do some quick gameplay tests on as many supported devices as we could and capture the performance data thanks to help from our friends at GameBench. We tested several devices with most of the supported chipsets—that being the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821, Snapdragon 835, Snapdragon 845, Kirin 970, and Exynos 8895—just to get a feel for how well Fortnite Mobile on Android performs on most current Android smartphones.

MIUI 10 may be the latest version of Xiaomi's custom UI, but that doesn't mean that MIUI 9 has become obsolete. In fact, it will take months for Xiaomi to release Global Stable and China Stable ROMs for its devices. The company has already specified the roll-out schedule for MIUI 10 Global Beta, as well as MIUI 10 China Alpha. An important thing to note, however, is that a MIUI 10 update is separate from an Android Oreo update, as MIUI 10 ROMs can be based on older versions of Android.

MIUI 10 Global Beta 8.7.5 released for eight Xiaomi devices

Recently, Xiaomi revealed the roll-out schedule of MIUI 10, the next version of MIUI. MIUI 10 comes in two variants: MIUI 10 China and MIUI 10 Global. The Global ROM is intended for a global audience and comes with Google Play services integration, and Xiaomi phones that are sold internationally ship with MIUI Global. We have seen MIUI 10 China be announced at the Xiaomi Mi 8 event in May, and MIUI 10 Global be announced at the Xiaomi Redmi Y2 event in India.

As surprising as it may be, Xiaomi devices are known for having an active development scene here on the XDA forums. Most of the custom development on Xiaomi phones that users come to our forums for is related to AOSP-based custom ROMs like LineageOS, CarbonROM, Pixel Experience, Resurrection Remix, and more. Fans of Xiaomi's MIUI may know of Xiaomi EU, a ROM that doesn't reside on our forums. While the name may make you think it's official, Xiaomi EU is actually an unofficial project that releases MIUI builds for many Xiaomi devices. Today, they've released their MIUI 10 builds for many devices like the Xiaomi Mi 6, Xiaomi Mi 8, Xiaomi Mi Mix 2, Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro, and more.

MIUI 10 boasts a brand new redesigned UI, for instance, along with optimizations for speed and artificial intelligence integration for photo taking. Interestingly, the company also announced that by training deep learning algorithms on roughly 100,000 photos, Xiaomi's single-camera devices will be able to take portrait mode photos on MIUI 10 - though they didn't confirm which devices would be able to take these photos.

Xiaomi announced MIUI 10 in India yesterday. As they claim, the system's new version is "faster than fast." The four main focus points are speed, design, sound, and AI portraits. The first devices with MIUI 10 are the smartphones that are eligible for entry into the China Beta ROM (or can flash it manually). Xiaomi's representatives talked about a lot of things, so I'll do my best to break them down.

The Xiaomi Mi 8, Mi 8 Explorer Edition, and the Mi 8 SE were recently launched at an event in China. With the three smartphone announcements came the release of a MIUI 10 China Developer ROM for several devices. The new "AI" features that Xiaomi is highlighting for the release include AI Preload and AI Portrait. MIUI 10 also brings changes to nearly every aspect of the system UI such as a redesigned lock screen, notifications, recent apps, quick settings, volume panel, and more. Parts of the new UI are reminiscent of the design seen in Android P. If you want to try out this new version of MIUI, you can either wait for Xiaomi to release a Global Beta ROM or sideload the China Beta ROM right now so long as you have the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2, Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S, Xiaomi Mi 5, Xiaomi Mi 6, Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro, or Xiaomi Mi Note 2. Don't worry, you can change the language from Mandarin to English and you can install Google apps too!

MIUI 9 was announced back in July 2017. The global version of MIUI 9 was launched in November, and since then, Xiaomi has slowly updated most of its smartphones with MIUI 9. MIUI 9 brought performance improvements, while the incremental MIUI 9.5 update also brought notification handling behavior in MIUI in line with stock Android. At an event in China, Xiaomi announced MIUI 10, the successor of MIUI 9, alongside the launch of the Mi 8, Mi 8 Explorer Edition, and the Mi 8 SE.
