Soon after that, the company started pushing closed beta builds of MIUI 12.5 to select Mi and Redmi smartphones in its home country. Every year, the Chinese OEM splits efforts between the domestic and global update policies, and this year is no different. If you're looking forward to running the latest iteration of MIUI on your phone, then you’re in luck as Xiaomi has now officially outlined the MIUI 12.5 update roadmap for its global device portfolio.

The Mi Note 10 was the first phone from Xiaomi to launch with the Samsung ISOCELL Bright HMX 108MP camera sensor. Instead of designing a new device from scratch as a successor to 2017's Mi Note 3, the Chinese OEM decided to rebrand the China-exclusive Mi CC9 Pro as the Mi Note 10 for the international market. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G-powered phone was originally shipped with MIUI 11 on top of Android 9 Pie, and Xiaomi is now rolling out the stable Android 10 update for it across the globe.

MIUI 11 is the newest big release for Xiaomi smartphones, perhaps even bigger than an Android version jump. Features on Xiaomi devices are dictated more by their MIUI versions than the underlying Android version, so an MIUI version upgrade is an exciting event. MIUI 11 was announced in China in September 2019, bringing along new features such as animated AOD and Horizon Light for supported devices, new font, dynamic sound system, Mi Work and Mi Go app suites, and more changes. The first batch of MIUI 11 Betas was available for a bunch of devices, and over the next few weeks, devices like the Redmi K20 have begun receiving their stable MIUI 11 updates. Now, Xiaomi has officially confirmed that stable MIUI 11 update is rolling out to the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro, Redmi 7, Redmi Note 5 Pro and the Poco F1.

During the Snapdragon Tech Summit last year, Xiaomi confirmed that its upcoming flagship Mi 10 will be launched in the first quarter of 2020. As expected, Xiaomi also confirmed that the device would feature Qualcomm's latest flagship SoC — the Snapdragon 865. However, we soon learned that the company was planning to launch another device alongside the Mi 10 — the Mi 10 Pro. The device was spotted in an MIUI 11 nightly build for the Redmi K30 5G, codename and all, and we also learned that the device would feature 66-watt super-fast charging. While we didn't have any additional information about the devices back then, we now have reason to believe that both the upcoming flagships from Xiaomi will feature a 108MP primary camera.

Xiaomi has done a great job regarding the release of kernel sources in recent times. There was once a time when the device maker was a routine violator of the GPL, as it failed to either release the kernel sources for a device on time or release the kernel sources at all. However, in 2018, the company publicly committed to releasing kernel sources for a new device launch within three months of release, and things have only got better from there. Problematic episodes such as the delay in releasing the Xiaomi Mi A1's kernel sources are now a thing of the past. These days, Xiaomi has actually become a great example on how to release the kernel source code in time.
