Timely kernel source releases from OEMs give developers and power users a chance to dive deeper into the code that runs their phones. It allows them to figure out ways to improve the phone's overall performance and capabilities. Kernel source releases also help developers release custom ROMs for the device which, in turn, benefit users who aren't satisfied with the stock ROM. In a bid to promote third-party development, most OEMs these days release kernel sources within a month or two of their devices hitting the market. Manufacturers like Samsung and Xiaomi have a good track record of releasing kernel sources and they've previously released kernel sources for the Android 9 Pie build for the Galaxy S10 series, the Xiaomi Mi 9 and the Redmi K20 Pro. Now, following the recent Android 10 rollout for these devices, the companies have released kernel sources for the Android 10 builds.

Xiaomi and Redmi smartphones are highly valued for their effective pricing. At the same time, their efforts to improve the software experience with their own Android overlay – MIUI – aren't hidden from anyone. With MIUI 11, Xiaomi added the "Breathing Light" feature, which, just like OnePlus' "Horizon Lighting" and Samsung's "Edge Lighting," lights up the longer edges on Xiaomi and Redmi devices with AMOLED displays whenever a new notification arrives. The feature, however, is considerably limited and if you want to customize the colors or improve the existing feature, a Substratum theme called "Trinity Theme: AOD Customization" can be incredibly useful.

Despite having a significant presence in markets like India and other Southeast Asian regions, China continues to be an important market for Xiaomi and other smartphone OEMs. A bulk of Xiaomi's sales happen in the early price ranges that are usually covered under the Redmi sub-brand. The Chinese OEM attempted something different with the launch of the Redmi K20 Pro, bringing over flagship-level specifications at an affordable price, but making certain decisions that differentiated the product from being a Poco F1 successor. Meanwhile, the definition of a "flagship" has changed slightly thanks to the introduction of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus, which has now prompted Xiaomi to release a new variant of the Redmi K20 Pro. Meet the Redmi K20 Pro Premium Edition.

Google Play Services for AR, formerly called ARCore, is an app that provides an SDK for developers to build augmented reality experiences into their apps. We've seen many apps on Google Play built using this SDK, from AR shopping apps to AR measurement apps to AR navigation apps. The more features that are built using this SDK, the more important it is for devices to support it. Google works with OEMs to calibrate the cameras and sensors on every individual device to ensure users will have optimal augmented reality experiences. When a device gets support for Google's AR service, it gets added to Google's "ARCore supported devices" list. Last week, 3 new Samsung devices were added to the list, but we also know that a bunch of other devices are also about to gain official support for ARCore.
