Kernel sources for the Motorola Moto E7/E7 Plus and a truckload of Xiaomi devices are now available
Kernel sources for the Motorola Moto E7 series and several Xiaomi phones, including the Mi Note 10 Lite, are now available for download.
Since Android is built on top of the Linux kernel, Android device makers have to provide, upon customer request, the source code for any Linux kernel binaries that ship on their devices. That includes not only the release date software, but also any subsequent updates to the kernel. The availability of such sources allow the modding community to add new capabilities that are otherwise not offered in the stock configuration. Kernel source releases also help developers to port popular custom ROMs (e.g. LineageOS) for the device which, in turn, benefit users who aren’t satisfied with the stock ROM. OEMs like Xiaomi and Motorola maintain a steady track record of releasing these sources and we now have another example of their commitment towards the aftermarket developer community.

Customize the AOD color in MIUI with the Trinity Substratum theme
Using Trinity Theme: AOD Customization and Substratum, you can customize the colors of the breathing light always-on display feature in MIUI 11
Xiaomi and Redmi smartphones are highly valued for their effective pricing. At the same time, their efforts to improve the software experience with their own Android overlay – MIUI – aren't hidden from anyone. With MIUI 11, Xiaomi added the "Breathing Light" feature, which, just like OnePlus' "Horizon Lighting" and Samsung's "Edge Lighting," lights up the longer edges on Xiaomi and Redmi devices with AMOLED displays whenever a new notification arrives. The feature, however, is considerably limited and if you want to customize the colors or improve the existing feature, a Substratum theme called "Trinity Theme: AOD Customization" can be incredibly useful.

Xiaomi's Redmi recently managed to pull the spotlight towards itself once again with the launch of the Redmi K20 and the Redmi K20 Pro. The two smartphones put up an exciting show in terms of the specifications and a premium design for their prices. Ever since these devices were launched in China, many enthusiasts have been wished for Xiaomi to launch them outside of China and the wish was partially granted with the launch of the Redmi K20 in European markets as the Xiaomi Mi 9T. 75Hz screen mod available for the Xiaomi Mi 9T/Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro
Much like the Xiaomi Mi 9, the display on the Xiaomi Mi 9T/Redmi K20 and the Redmi K20 Pro can be overclocked to a higher 75Hz refresh rate. Read on!
Mainstream smartphones have just begun exploring higher refresh rate displays, something that was previously done on just a few niche smartphones. The OnePlus 7 Pro was widely praised for its 90Hz display that lent the phone some of its smoothness and fluidity. Other flagships released this year have come with more conventional 60Hz displays; but some of these flagships, like the Xiaomi Mi 9, can have their displays tweaked to run at a higher-than-stock refresh rate. Now, we are seeing similar modifications appear for the Xiaomi Mi 9T (or the Redmi K20, as it is called in some regions) and the Redmi K20 Pro.
The reaction to the Redmi K20's price shows there's still a place for a POCO F2
The Xiaomi Redmi K20 stirred a controversy with its "high" pricing. Is the K20 series the perfect replacement for the Poco F2, or is it too pricy?
In the middle of 2018, information first surfaced about Xiaomi working on a new flagship smartphone featuring the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC. What made this information interesting was the fact that Xiaomi intended this phone to be launched in India under a new sub-brand called "POCO". At that stage, Xiaomi's flagship Mi series had failed to capture the hearts of the Indian audience, so Xiaomi's decision to grant a "flagship" product to a new sub-brand was rather brave and ambitious. The POCO team had an uphill task ahead of them, as they had to compete in a price bracket where Xiaomi phones had not managed to break into, especially in regions like India. And with the launch of the POCO F1, they set out to make smartphone history. Now, Xiaomi is back with the Redmi K20 series, but is the magic still there?
