LineageOS is the most popular AOSP-based custom ROM out there. Its origin can be traced back to CyanogenMod, which was itself not only the most well-known custom ROM many years ago but also the reason the OnePlus One was so well-received by the community. Over the years, the team behind LineageOS has kept the project updated with new versions of Android for dozens of Android devices. The latest version, LineageOS 17.1, is based on Android 10 and supports a long list of devices. Now, the custom ROM team has added official support for their latest release for a lot of devices from OnePlus, Samsung, Xiaomi, and more. Newly added devices include the Essential Phone, Moto X (2014), Samsung Galaxy A5 (2016), Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro, and more.

OnePlus followed the suit and rolled out the Android 10 update for OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro. Making up for the smartphones that have not or are not likely to receive the Android 10 update anytime, the Android development community has thrived hard to create Android 10-based AOSP or Custom ROMs for a long list of devices. Now, five more devices have been added to this list and these include the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro (India), Redmi 4X, first-gen Mi Max, Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 (2016), and the Nokia 6.1.

The Redmi Note 5 series, launched back in February 2018, was one of the most popular devices sold by Xiaomi in India. Within the first four months of their launch, the Redmi Note 5 and the Redmi Note 5 Pro crossed the 5 million figure in the country alone. The more powerful of the two, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro (globally known as Redmi Note 5 aka whyred) was more popular of the two due to its superior specs including dual camera setup. This is why it received more attention from the company in terms of software updates and is now getting another major update. Alongside the Redmi Note 5 Pro, Xiaomi is also taking due care of the Redmi 6 Pro. At the same time 2017's Xiaomi Mi Note 3 is getting an update too.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro was launched in February 2018. It marked a decent upgrade over the Redmi Note 4, which at that time, was one of the best-selling Xiaomi devices in India. The Redmi Note 5 Pro and its successor, the Redmi Note 6 Pro (launched in September 2018), helped Xiaomi cement its position as a leader in the Indian market, contributing heavily to the 11.7 Million smartphones that Xiaomi shipped in Q3 2018 alone in India.

Xiaomi follows a different release cycle for its updates, wherein the MIUI version of the device has more power to dictate the featureset of the phone, more so than the Android version. This means that base Android versions are not as important to the overall working of the device, and these updates may get lower priority. On the other hand, the company did consider user feedback and decided to work on Android Pie updates for the Mi 6, so that's a good sign (although we aren't sure if the entire exercise wasn't merely a marketing activity).

Xiaomi has confirmed that Android Pie is coming for the Chinese Xiaomi Redmi Note 5, Redmi S2, Redmi 6 Pro and Mi 6X. Read on to know more!

Xiaomi's OS update cycle differs from the conventional cycle followed by most other OEMs. In addition to base Android versions, Xiaomi devices also rely on MIUI updates for getting new features and stability improvements. This often means that features across devices are reliant more on the MIUI version than on the Android version of the device. On the other hand, the base Android version update definitely takes more time to arrive on the device as compared to other OEMs, but that is to be expected considering how heavy MIUI is as a UX skin.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro has been a hit for the Chinese smartphone OEM even though it has a different name depending on where you buy the phone. The codename for the phone is WHYRED (which helps to clear things up a bit) and it has helped the company make major strides in the markets they are currently focusing on. However, not everyone is a fan of MIUI, but thankfully Xiaomi has a thriving developer community to help bring various custom ROMs to the device.

As one of the world's largest smartphone manufacturers, Xiaomi has a lot of devices to keep updates. For the most part, they do a decent job of this. They can be slow at times to push out Android version updates, but MIUI updates often come frequently. MIUI 10 China Stable is now rolling out to the Xiaomi Mi Max 3, Xiaomi Mi Max 2, Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A, Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A Lite, and Xiaomi Redmi Note 5/Pro. Chinese electronics maker Xiaomi is a giant not only in their home country of China but also in India and other Asian countries. They've also recently started expanding into Europe. Their smartphones and tablets are incredibly popular for their price-performance ratio. You can get the latest Xiaomi smartphone, laptop, wristband, and Bluetooth headset for the same price as a new iPhone. The incredible value of their products has led many to import their products to other countries. Third-party retailers have taken advantage of Xiaomi's popularity in the reseller market by promising customers they'll get the "global" version of a Chinese Xiaomi device, even if a global version doesn't actually exist. Xiaomi has started to crack down on these resellers, and in their latest move, they are preventing their devices from booting out-of-region MIUI devices.

Displays are a fundamental part of smartphones. A great display is now required for any modern phone. Display quality is judged on the basis of resolution, brightness, black levels, viewing angles, and color accuracy. Color accuracy is a broad term which includes grayscale accuracy with gamma, saturation accuracy, and gamut accuracy. Google made a big push last year with Android Oreo, which is the first Android version to support color management. Unfortunately, Android Oreo's color management system has only been adopted by a few device makers so far. Even on the Google Pixel 2, some users wanted more flexibility than having to choose from color profiles such as Natural, Boosted, and Saturated. They wanted a way to adjust display saturation on a more low-level basis.
