MIUI 11 is the newest big release for Xiaomi smartphones, perhaps even bigger than an Android version jump. Features on Xiaomi devices are dictated more by their MIUI versions than the underlying Android version, so an MIUI version upgrade is an exciting event. MIUI 11 was announced in China in September 2019, bringing along new features such as animated AOD and Horizon Light for supported devices, new font, dynamic sound system, Mi Work and Mi Go app suites, and more changes. The first batch of MIUI 11 Betas was available for a bunch of devices, and over the next few weeks, devices like the Redmi K20 have begun receiving their stable MIUI 11 updates. Now, Xiaomi has officially confirmed that stable MIUI 11 update is rolling out to the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro, Redmi 7, Redmi Note 5 Pro and the Poco F1.

Redmi Note 5 and Note 5 Pro were among the most successful Xiaomi smartphones sold in India. By the fourth month after launch, Xiaomi had managed to sell 5 million units of the two smartphones combined in the country. Redmi Note 5 Pro, the more cherished and powerful one of the two, has received a fair treatment including two major OS updates - Android 8.1 Oreo and Android 9 Pie - while a system-wide dark mode is currently being tested. The lower-powered Redmi Note 5, on the other hand, has not received any update since November last year. But, if you're using an Indian Redmi Note 5, there's good news for you as Xiaomi is now turning its attention back to the smartphone and releasing a new update after almost five months of waiting.

Xiaomi releases a ton of smartphones each year, often bringing existing smartphones released in China into new markets under a different brand name. That's exactly what happened with the budget Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A and Redmi Note 5A Prime smartphones, which were released in India in late 2017 as the Redmi Y1 Lite and Redmi Y1 respectively. Xiaomi launched the Redmi Y1 smartphones with Android 7.1 Nougat-based MIUI 9, but promised users that they would deliver a MIUI 10 update. After a long delay to fix some "critical issues", the MIUI 10 Global Stable update is finally rolling out for these devices.

As one of the world's largest smartphone manufacturers, Xiaomi has a lot of devices to keep updates. For the most part, they do a decent job of this. They can be slow at times to push out Android version updates, but MIUI updates often come frequently. MIUI 10 China Stable is now rolling out to the Xiaomi Mi Max 3, Xiaomi Mi Max 2, Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A, Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A Lite, and Xiaomi Redmi Note 5/Pro. MIUI 10 Global Stable is rolling out to the Xiaomi Redmi 6.

Chinese electronics maker Xiaomi is a giant not only in their home country of China but also in India and other Asian countries. They've also recently started expanding into Europe. Their smartphones and tablets are incredibly popular for their price-performance ratio. You can get the latest Xiaomi smartphone, laptop, wristband, and Bluetooth headset for the same price as a new iPhone. The incredible value of their products has led many to import their products to other countries. Third-party retailers have taken advantage of Xiaomi's popularity in the reseller market by promising customers they'll get the "global" version of a Chinese Xiaomi device, even if a global version doesn't actually exist. Xiaomi has started to crack down on these resellers, and in their latest move, they are preventing their devices from booting out-of-region MIUI devices.

Xiaomi's Anti-Rollback Protection Explained: How to avoid bricking your phone

All Xiaomi smartphones and tablets will have anti-rollback protection enabled. What is it and how do you avoid bricking your device because of it?

Back in July, Xiaomi rolled out MIUI 10 Global Beta 8.7.5 for eight Xiaomi devices. When users installed the update on their Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro, they unknowingly flashed a build with anti-rollback protection enabled. Users who didn’t like MIUI 10 Global Beta found a nasty surprise when they tried to re-install the latest MIUI 9 Global Stable ROM: their phones were bricked! This wasn’t the kind of brick that you could fix by restoring a TWRP backup, flashing a new ROM, or using MiFlash to restore to a factory image. This is a hard, unrecoverable brick that requires the use of EDL mode to fix. But EDL mode isn’t accessible unless you have an authorized account, so many users were left with no way to fix their phone except sending it in to an authorized service center or paying to use someone’s account with EDL access. In this article, we’re going to explain everything you need to know about Xiaomi’s new anti-rollback protection so you can avoid bricking your new phone.

Xiaomi has been dominating the market budget and mid-range Indian markets thanks to their Redmi series of devices. There's the regular Redmi series that are priced a little less and have smaller screens compared to the Redmi Note series. The company made massive gains in India thanks to these devices even though, in my personal opinion, they dropped the ball with the naming scheme. In any case, that doesn't seem to have slowed their growth because these phones are selling like hotcakes. Some of their more recent popular devices include the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 and Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro, and for the former, we now have the latest stable Android 8.1 Oreo update.

One of the best developments in the Android community in recent years has been Google Camera ports. The Google Pixel's picture-taking ability is spectacular, even though the camera hardware may be better on other devices. A lot of the Google Pixel's photo magic comes from the Google Camera app. Features like HDR+ and portrait mode make the camera really shine. A vibrant community of developers and users has sprung up to bring these features to as many devices as possible.

Xiaomi has long been a developer favorite of the community here on XDA. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 forums have been some of our busiest ever, and pretty much every large ROM has been officially released for it. Of course, the successors have been incredibly popular too, and Xiaomi has, for the most part, embraced this community. Now they're implementing a change in MIUI 10 Global Beta 8.7.5 on the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro which enables Android Oreo's anti-rollback protection. The only current way to avoid it is to unlock your bootloader and flash another ROM. This has to be done before upgrading.

Recently, Xiaomi revealed the roll-out schedule of MIUI 10, the next version of MIUI. MIUI 10 comes in two variants: MIUI 10 China and MIUI 10 Global. The Global ROM is intended for a global audience and comes with Google Play services integration, and Xiaomi phones that are sold internationally ship with MIUI Global. We have seen MIUI 10 China be announced at the Xiaomi Mi 8 event in May, and MIUI 10 Global be announced at the Xiaomi Redmi Y2 event in India.

MIUI is available in two forms: MIUI China Stable and MIUI Global Stable. The two ROMs have important differences in functionality, as Global ROMs are intended for a global audience. MIUI Global ROMs have Google Play services integration, while MIUI China ROMs don't come with Google Play services are integrated with Xiaomi's online services. Languages and region-specific functionality are different as well. It's important to keep the above the mind when dealing with MIUI 10. MIUI 10 China was announced by Xiaomi alongside the Xiaomi Mi 8, Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition, and the Xiaomi Mi 8 SE at an event in China in May. MIUI 10 Global, on the other hand, was announced at the Xiaomi Redmi Y2 event in India last month.

As surprising as it may be, Xiaomi devices are known for having an active development scene here on the XDA forums. Most of the custom development on Xiaomi phones that users come to our forums for is related to AOSP-based custom ROMs like LineageOS, CarbonROM, Pixel Experience, Resurrection Remix, and more. Fans of Xiaomi's MIUI may know of Xiaomi EU, a ROM that doesn't reside on our forums. While the name may make you think it's official, Xiaomi EU is actually an unofficial project that releases MIUI builds for many Xiaomi devices. Today, they've released their MIUI 10 builds for many devices like the Xiaomi Mi 6, Xiaomi Mi 8, Xiaomi Mi Mix 2, Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro, and more.
