Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 gets Android Pie (Android 9) port with everything working
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 can now get Android Pie (Android 9) thanks to an unofficial port. Basically all hardware functions work!
Xiaomi's smartphones are some of the most popular on our forums and for good reason. They're generally affordable but make compromises that people on a budget can live with. The popular Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 with its 5.5-inch FHD display, Snapdragon 625, 4,100 mAh battery, 3/4GB RAM was one of the most popular budget devices in 2017 for that reason and remains one of the most popular on our forums with a sizable development community. The smartphone launched with Android 6.0 Marshmallow and received an official update to Android 7.0 Nougat, but thanks to XDA Senior Member abhishek987, owners of the Redmi Note 4 get to experience the latest version of Android, Android Pie (Android 9), with basically everything working.
Xiaomi Redmi 5A forums now open
The Xiaomi Redmi 5A forums are now open, so go check them out! There's already a number of custom recoveries and ROMs released, so plenty to choose from.
The Xiaomi Redmi 5A's forums are now open here on XDA for all users! Crowned as one of the bestsellers of the first quarter of 2018, the Xiaomi Redmi 5A is a phone that is very likely to have a great development community behind it. With kernel sources released for the device already, it's not going to be too long until we see development really start to take off. Cheaper Xiaomi devices always have a history of having a great development community behind them, and the Redmi 5A is likely to be no different. It's a great device with a few compromises, but that's to be expected given the cost.
Get Ambient Display Gestures for any Redmi Note 4 AOSP/LOS-based ROM
A flashable zip to enable ambient display (XiaomiDoze) on LOS/AOSP based ROMs has just been released for the Xiaomi Remi Note 4! Check it out!
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, while an affordable device, uses its own flavor of Android called MIUI. Despite providing various features not found in other OEM ROMs (which some may argue are bloatware), one feature that the hardware supports but MIUI has lacked is ambient display. This feature shows you your notifications and the time by simply pulling the device out of your pocket, waving your hand over the device or getting a notification. However, thanks to XDA-Member Vidhanth, you can flash a zip file to enable ambient display gestures on any AOSP/LOS based ROM on your Xiaomi Redmi Note 4! Check it out below!
