The Vivo NEX 3 was leaked several times last month with a very divisive feature: the "waterfall" display. Today, Vivo officially announced the NEX 3 5G and the 6.89-inch curved display is the front and center feature. 5G support is also on board, giving this phone two very trendy features for the coming year.

Curved displays are controversial among smartphone fans. Some people think they look futuristic and feel great in the hand. Others look at it from a more practical standpoint and take issue with the usability problems. Regardless, the Vivo NEX 3 5G has some of the most extreme curved display edges we've seen. The display curves so far around the edge that there is no room for buttons on the side. Vivo is actually using the sides of the display for virtual buttons. Sound familiar?

In terms of specifications, the curved display is OLED with 1080p resolution. The curved display, in-display fingerprint scanner, and pop-up front-facing camera allow for 99.6% screen-to-body ratio. The back of the device is also made of glass and it matches the curve of the front, making it a perfectly uniform shape. Speaking of that pop-up mechanism, it houses a 16MP selfie camera.

Moving to the back of the phone, the Vivo NEX 3 5G has three cameras: 64MP primary, 13MP ultra-wide, and 13MP telephoto. They are orientated in a circular module that Vivo calls the "Lunar Ring." Inside, the NEX 3 has the Snapdragon 855 Plus SoC, 8/12GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, vapor cooling system, 4,500mAh battery, and 44W Super FlashCharge charging.

Vivo did not share pricing or availability information. There will be 4G and 5G version available in the "coming months" in Asia Pacific, Southeast Asia, and other markets. What are your thoughts on this extreme curved display situation? Do you like it or hate it?
