Vivo has the third-biggest smartphone brand in India by the volume of sales with slightly more than 10% of the market share. This is because of its wide portfolio of affordable devices that dominate sales in the offline retail. But the company is slowly progressing towards capturing higher price segments and bringing its smartphones powered by the latest innovative features, including the button-less Vivo Apex 2019 or the Vivo V15 and the V15 Pro with rising selfie cameras, to India. Now, the company has listed the Vivo Y17, a premium-looking smartphone with a triple real camera and a large 5,000mAh battery on its website, hinting that its sales should begin soon.
The Vivo Y17 is the first in Vivo's Y-series to feature triple rear cameras. Of these three cameras, the 12MP primary sensor is complemented by an 8MP wide-angle lens, and a 2MP depth sensor. Just like most other brands these days, Vivo is also strapping the "AI" buzzword to the camera. For selfies, the Vivo Y17 features a 20MP camera which sits on a tiny teardrop notch. The camera supports a host of features like palm gestures, voice control, gender recognition, a super-wide mode, and much more.
The 6.35-inch LCD display on the Vivo Y17 has an 89% screen-to-body ratio and sports a resolution of 1544 x 720. On the back, the smartphone boasts of mirror finish design which is available in two gradient options and inspired by "the interaction of water and light." Under the hood, it is powered by a MediaTek Helio P35 SoC, which can be considered a good competitor to the Snapdragon 625 or the Snapdragon 636. In addition to the 4GB RAM, the Y17 supports a 128GB storage.
Besides the camera, a major highlight of the Vivo Y17 is its 5,000mAh battery which can be fast-charged at 18W. The fast charging support along with a massive battery can provide for an unwavering battery backup. On top of that, there's Vivo's custom Android skin called Funtouch OS, which is based on Android 9.0 Pie.
As for the price and the availability of the Vivo Y17, we await clear indications from the company. Considering that the smartphone brings some improvements over the Y95, we can expect it to be easily priced north of ₹15,000. 91Mobiles expects a price of ₹17,990 for the Y17.
