Many of us are ready and waiting for 5G to take off, but it’s difficult for carriers to effectively roll out 5G while still dedicating valuable spectrum to 4G and 3G. That's why carriers have wanted to phase out their 3G networks for several years, but most of the shutdowns have been delayed multiple times. Even though 4G and LTE have been supported on most mobile devices for years, there's still a small number of 3G-only phones and equipment in use.

Verizon first planned to shut down its 3G network in 2019, but the transition was delayed to the end of 2020, and it's now set for the end of 2022. Meanwhile, T-Mobile has reportedly delayed its 3G shutdown to April 2022, and AT&T will turn off 3G "by February 2022."

It's not always easy to figure out which cellular technologies your phone, tablet, or hotspot has — especially when 4G/LTE support in the hardware doesn't necessarily mean AT&T compatibility. Thankfully, AT&T has published a list of devices that will continue working after the 3G shutdown. The list can also be used to check which phones support AT&T's 'HD Voice' feature (VoLTE). We've mirrored the list below in an easier-to-read format so you can check if your phone, tablet, or smartwatch will continue working on AT&T after the carrier shuts down its 3G network.
