Microsoft is rolling out a new update for Windows Insiders running Windows 11 in the Release Preview and Beta channels, which are still on the production channel of the operating system. These users are mostly testing cumulative updates ahead of their general release, so there usually aren't a ton of changes. Today, they're getting Windows 11 build 22000.588, and there's a notable change to the way notifications work.

Now, Window 11 can display up to three high-priority notification toasts at once, and this is designed for situations like calls, reminders, and alarms. If you happen to have an alarm coming in at the same time as a call, you'll be able to see them both at the same time, plus a regular notification can be displayed on top of the three high-priority ones.

Aside from this change, Windows 11 build 2200.588 is all about fixes, and there's nothing that stands out too much. There's a fix for auto-startup being disabled for UWP apps, as well as one for a problem where Windows may take a long time to start up on 5G-enabled devices. The list of fixes is a bit long, and you can find all of it below:

If you're not enrolled in the Windows Insider Program, you shouldn't have long to wait. These updates are usually rolled out in the Beta and Release Preview channels just a few days before being available to everyone. Windows 11 build 22000.588 will probably be the optional update that will be available to everyone later this month. If you still don't install that, all of these changes will be rolled into next month's Patch Tuesday update, and that one is mandatory.

Users running Windows 10 in the Release Preview channel also received a cumulative update earlier this week, which added a feature called Search Highlights. This is a new search experience that brings up relevant trivia and searches that change every day. Currently, the only way to test this in Windows 11 is if you're in the Dev channel, but it should be available to everyone in the near future.
