Windows 11 build 22000.706 comes to Insiders with Windows spotlight for desktop
Microsoft is releasing a new cumulative update, and it contains a few new features, such as Windows Spotlight on the desktop.
Today, Microsoft is releasing Windows 11 build 22000.706 to the Release Preview channel of the Insider Program. As usual, the channel is reserved for cumulative updates that are slated to eventually roll out to the public. Non-Insiders will see this as an optional update in a week or two, and then the fixes that are included will eventually be bundled into next month's Patch Tuesday update.
There are a couple of new features though. Windows spotlight finally brings the pictures from your lock screen to the desktop. It's pretty straight forward. Your desktop wallpaper will be able to cycle through daily images, much like we've already had on the lock screen.
There's also a better Family Safety verification experience for a child account when they request more screen time.
Other than that, KB 5014019 contains a ton of fixes.
Windows 11 build 22000.706 Fixes
-
We fixed an issue that causes the Input (TextInputHost.exe) app to stop working.
-
We fixed an issue in searchindexer.exe that affects the search for shapes in Microsoft Visio.

We fixed an issue that occurs when adding a trusted user, group, or computer that has a one-way trust in place. The error message, “The object selected doesn’t match the type of destination source” appears.
-
We fixed an issue that fails to display the Application Counters section in the performance reports of the Performance Monitor tool.

-
We fixed an issue that prevents BitLocker from encrypting when you use the silent encryption option.
-

-
We fixed an issue that occurs when you apply multiple WDAC policies. Doing that might prevent scripts from running when the policies allow scripts to run.

-
We added animation to the Widgets icon when you click or tap the icon and the taskbar is aligned on the left.
-
We fixed an issue that affects the rendering of the default Widgets icon on a taskbar that is aligned in the center.
-
We fixed an issue that causes blurry app icons in Search results when the display’s dots per inch (dpi) scaling is greater than 100%.
-
We fixed an issue that causes file copying to be slower because of a wrong calculation of write buffers within cache manager.
-
We fixed an issue that might cause a system to stop responding when a user signs out if Microsoft OneDrive is in use.
-
We fixed a known issue that might prevent recovery discs (CD or DVD) from starting if you created them using the Backup and Restore (Windows 7) app in Control Panel. This issue occurs after installing Windows updates released January 11, 2022 or later.
Again, this update is exclusive to the Release Preview channel of the Windows Insider Program. The Beta channel has already moved onto testing out features from Windows 11 version 22H2, which is set to arrive this fall. Those users are going to start seeing new cumulative updates soon, but they're not going to be the same updates as in the Release Preview channel.
The Release Preview channel won't move over to 22H2 until a few weeks before it ships for everyone. That means that if you're using the channel, you'll be on Windows 11 version 21H2 until September or October.
As mentioned above, this update should be available for non-Insiders in a week or two.
