The Xiaomi Redmi 5 was launched early this year in India, taking its place as Xiaomi's budget offering. The device was well received by its target audience, allowing Xiaomi to retain its top spot in India in Q2 2018. Similarly, the Xiaomi Mi A1 was launched over a year ago in India, and has been received well for its no-frills approach to stock Android even though the device did not manage to sell as many units compared to the Redmi or Redmi Note lineup.

The latest updates to both the phones should bring a cheer for their users, as both the phones can now make use of dual 4G VoLTE. This is an important functionality as more carriers move towards adopting VoLTE on their network.

Xiaomi Mi A1

The update for the Xiaomi Mi A1 is based on the earlier Android Pie beta update. This means that the Mi A1 is finally gettings its stable release of Android 9 Pie. The update weighs in at ~1075 MB and brings with it the new OS version update, as well as other additions such as support for FM Radio (a feature we missed in our review), adaptive battery and brightness, and a new navigation option. December's security update as well as dual 4G VoLTE functionality is also included in the update.

Xiaomi Redmi 5

The Xiaomi Redmi 5 has received Dual 4G VoLTE support on the latest MIUI 10 Global Beta update with the build number OPM1.171019.026 based on Android 8.1 Oreo. The build also features the November 2018 security patch, same as the previous Global Beta.

While the feature is available only through the Beta update, we expect the functionality to roll out soon for the Redmi 5 in a stable update.
