Update 1 (6/14/19 @ 03:45 AM ET):  Xiaomi adds Redmi Note 7 Pro to the list.

Xiaomi develops new versions of its custom Android overlay, MIUI, independent of major upgrades in Android. The upcoming version of MIUI i.e. MIUI 11 has been in development since January and has been promised to come with better icons and animations, system-wide dark theme, and many other performance as well as battery optimizations. While the release of MIUI 11 has not finalized yet, Xiaomi has begun talking about the availability of Android Q on smartphones such as the Mi MIX 3, Mi 9, Redmi K20 series, and seven others.

Xiaomi made the announcement via the MIUI Forums in China, detailing the schedule for the availability of the stable version of Android Q. As per the post, these smartphones from Xiaomi and Redmi are eligible for the update:

  • In Q4 2019:
    • Xiaomi Mi 9
    • Redmi K20 Pro
    • Xiaomi Mi 8
    • Xiaomi Mi 8 Screen Fingerprint Edition
    • Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition
    • Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S
    • Xiaomi Mi Mix 3
    • Redmi K20
    • Xiaomi Mi 9 SE
  • In Q1 2020
    • Redmi Note 7
    • Redmi Note 7 Pro (added later)

Following the launch of Android Q beta for non-Pixel devices, it was made available for the Mi MIX 3 and the Mi 9 while the Redmi K20 Pro was added to the program soon after its launch. So, these devices can be expected to be prioritized over the others in the list.

It is to be noted that this schedule applies only to Chinese variants and the availability of Android Q on the Indian/global variants of these and other devices is not clear for now. We expect the global updates to follow the release in China a few weeks later. The company also stresses that this is a rough estimate for the update and the schedule may change in the case of unforeseen hiccups. It is still in the process of considering other devices for the Android Q update.

In the meantime, we also hope to see a glimpse of MIUI 11, which should be launching soon.

Update: Redmi Note 7 Pro added to the list

The list was refreshed soon after we reported the development with Redmi Note 7 Pro being added to it. As per the source, the Redmi Note 7 Pro will also receive Android Q update in the first quarter of 2020 alongside the Redmi Note 7.
