Xiaomi lists their progress on Android Oreo and Android Pie updates
When it comes to Android software updates, Xiaomi is pretty unique in their approach. The company is fully committed to their MIUI software experience and has been known to release new versions of MIUI to phones several years old even if it meant rolling out an older version of Android. Xiaomi’s MIUI is pretty heavily customized, too, which means there’s a long development time involved before the latest Android version is released. They’ve been working on improving that, though, as the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S was one of the few devices to receive an Android P beta. Now, Xiaomi has published their progress on updating their devices to Android Oreo and Android Pie.
According to the roadmap, the Xiaomi Redmi 5, Xiaomi Redmi 5A, Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus, and Xiaomi Mi 5X will be the last devices receiving Android Oreo before the end of the year. As for Android Pie, the update has already rolled out to the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S, the Xiaomi Mi 8, and the Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition, and it’s expected to roll out to the Xiaomi Mi 8 SE, the Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro, and the Xiaomi Mi Max 3 before the end of the year.

Keep in mind that this update is tracking their progress for the last quarter of 2018. So if you don’t see your device listed, it doesn’t mean that Android Pie isn’t coming to your device, as it could be rolled out during the first or second quarter of 2019.
No specific dates were given for the Android Oreo or Android Pie updates for the listed devices, but given that 2018 is nearly over we should be hearing more about the planned test updates followed by the general release. Xiaomi says they will update the roadmap on their MIUI forums when an update has been released. We’ll be keeping an eye on the roadmap thread for any further updates.
