Redmi Note 7 Pro offers the best bang for your buck among the budget segment smartphones available in India. One of the most alluring highlights of the smartphone is its 48MP camera, which managed to take some really impressive images during our review. However, there have been some caveats in the Camera app as well with respect to the RAM management on the Redmi Note 7 Pro. Xiaomi India now appears to be making efforts to fix these issues and has released a new update with a score of bug fixes and performance improvements.

Xiaomi has released MIUI 10 Global ROM version 10.2.8.0.PFHINXM for the Redmi Note 7 Pro. With this update, Xiaomi promises to bring significant updates in terms of the camera performance of the smartphone. But before we go over these in detail, here's the changelog for the update:

  • Camera improvements
    • Sharpness improvements in both 48 and 12MP modes
    • Improvements in portrait mode underexposure issue
    • Improvements in low light details visibility and image brightness
    • Improvements in indoor AWB (auto white balance)
  • SystemÂ
    • Fix - Couldn't light up screen using gestures
    • Optimization - Screen brightness issues
    • Optimization - Updated Android Security Patch to March 2019 for increased system security
  • Lock screen, status bar, Notification shadeÂ
    • Fix - Call-time bubble overlapping with notification icons

Camera, being the Redmi Note 7 Pro's spotlight feature, gets most of the attention in the update as well as Xiaomi's announcement. As per the changelog, the images clicked by both - the 48MP and the 12MP - modes will now be sharper. We observed some significant shutter lag in the camera app while taking 48MP, so we're hoping that is fixed too (we're yet to try it out and will update you after we do). The update also fixes issues like inadequate lighting in the portrait mode and brings improvements with the white balance as well as exposure in the images.

Apart from the camera, the MIUI update also improves automatic brightness and patches the security issues noted in Google's Android security bulletin for March 2019, even though the April patch is already out. Lastly, the update fixes the overlapping of the return-to-call button in the status bar and fixes issues with screen waking using gestures.

If you own a Redmi Note 7 Pro in India, you should receive the update soon. But if you do not wish to wait, go ahead and download the ROM from the link belong and install it on your device using the MIUI Updater app.
