The hardware in our smartphones today are sometimes capable of more than the OEMs actually allow for. This isn't exclusive to Android and smartphones either, but we here at XDA are always looking to unlock the true potential of our smartphones and tablets. A mod called the Zero Camera Mod enables video recording at QHD resolution at 60 frames per second for the Exynos variant, but it also does much more to improve camera quality across the board for both the Exynos and the Snapdragon Galaxy Note 8 such as by adding HDR support at 4K.

You may have heard of the Zero Camera Mod before as we've featured it a few times in the past. Just like with this Galaxy Note 8 release, it's enabled many other devices to have a fuller and more diverse camera experience. This is thanks to the work from XDA Senior Member zeroprobe and you can see that they've released this mod for other devices including the Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 EdgeGalaxy S8, and even the aging Nexus 5.

These mods do not always include the same features for each device (for instance you can't get QHD @ 60FPS recordings on the Google Nexus 5), but they do add features and capabilities to these devices that simply are not present in the stock camera application.

The Zero Camera Mod usually comes in the form of an application and/or a flashable mod itself, with the companion application allowing you to fine tune specific features that it enables.

You'll find a full list of features the Zero Camera Mod enables for the Exynos Galaxy Note 8 listed here:

  • QHD @ 60fps (2560x1440) - Exynos Only
  • HDR for 4K / QHD
  • AutoFocus Tracking all modes
  • No Recording Time Limits
  • Increased Bitrates
  • Increased JPG quality for single and burst shots.
  • Installs latest Samsung Camera revision
  • Video Effects for modes 4K
  • Remove No Flash limit at 15% battery
  • Remove 4GB video file size limit - App only
  • Adjust Photo Edge Sharpness & DeNoise settings - App only (Exynos only currently)
  • Custom Shutter Speed > 10 seconds - App only
  • Choose your own custom Gallery - App only

Install Zero Camera Mod for the Samsung Galaxy Note 8

In order to install this modification, you'll need to have a rooted device. You can get root access on both the Snapdragon Galaxy Note 8 and the Exynos Galaxy Note 8. If you've installed TWRP then you can simply flash one of the zip files found in the developer's thread.

You can also install this mod by grabbing the developer's paid application from the Play Store, which has the added benefit of letting you modify the camera quality parameters yourself.

Keep in mind that the Snapdragon Galaxy Note 8 does not yet have TWRP on it, so the only way to install this mod on those devices is to use the developer's app.
